{"id":41821,"date":"2013-06-14T11:17:23","date_gmt":"2013-06-14T10:17:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/breaking-news\/americans-on-both-sides-of-the-aisle-oppose-war-in-syria\/41821\/"},"modified":"2013-06-14T11:17:23","modified_gmt":"2013-06-14T10:17:23","slug":"americans-on-both-sides-of-the-aisle-oppose-war-in-syria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/breaking-news\/americans-on-both-sides-of-the-aisle-oppose-war-in-syria\/","title":{"rendered":"Americans on Both Sides of the Aisle Oppose War In Syria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!-- START CONTENT --><\/p>\n<p><strong><a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonsblog.com\/2013\/06\/americans-on-both-sides-of-the-aisle-oppose-war-in-syria.html\">Washington\u2019s Blog<\/a><\/strong><br \/>June 14, 2013<\/p>\n<p>Left-leaning\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" title=\"Huffington Post\" href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/\">Huffington Post<\/a> calls the Syria war a \u201cquagmire\u201d:<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"slb\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonsblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Huff-Syria.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Huff Syria\" src=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonsblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Huff-Syria.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"592\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Right-leaning\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" title=\"Drudge Report\" href=\"http:\/\/drudgereport.com\/\">Drudge Report<\/a> shows a picture of an Al Qaeda soldier with weapons:<\/p>\n<p><a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"slb\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonsblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Drudge-Syria.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Drudge Syria\" src=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonsblog.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Drudge-Syria.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"337.267637176\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The American public is extremely hesitant to intervene directly in Syria\u2019s fighting.<\/p>\n<p>Indeed, a June 1st\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" title=\"NBC\/Wall Street Journal poll\" href=\"http:\/\/firstread.nbcnews.com\/_news\/2013\/06\/11\/18905791-nbcwsj-poll-americans-oppose-intervention-in-syria\">NBC\/Wall Street Journal poll<\/a> found:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The American public is extremely hesitant to intervene directly in Syria\u2019s civil war.<\/p>\n<p>Asked to pick a response to stop the killing of civilians in Syria, just 15 percent in the poll say they favor U.S. military action, and only 11 percent want to provide arms to the opposition.<\/p>\n<p>By comparison, a plurality of respondents \u2013 42 percent \u2013 prefer to provide only humanitarian assistance, and 24 percent believe the U.S. shouldn\u2019t take any action.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps more significantly, those attitudes cut across party lines and almost all demographic groups.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether you voted for Romney or Obama, they have the same opinion on Syria,\u201d said Republican pollster Bill McInturff, who conducted the survey with the Democratic firm Hart Research.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt explains the great reticence of the American public,\u201d McInturff added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Similarly,\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" title=\"Gallup\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gallup.com\/poll\/162854\/americans-oppose-military-involvement-syria.aspx\">Gallup<\/a> found on May 31st:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Sixty-eight percent of Americans say the United States should not use military action in Syria \u2026 even though they expect that diplomatic efforts will fail to bring peace.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Gallup found that 72% of Democrats, 70% of Independents and 64% of Republicans oppose war in Syria.<\/p>\n<p>And the\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" title=\"Philadelphia Tribune\" href=\"http:\/\/www.phillytrib.com\/commentaryarticles\/item\/9351-voters-right-to-be-wary-of-intervention.html\">Philadelphia Tribune<\/a> reported on May 26th:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Americans are right to be wary about the United States getting more involved in Syria.<\/p>\n<p>A new Fox News poll released days before Memorial Day, a day of remembering the men and women who died in military service for the United States, shows that 68 percent of voters say the U.S. should stay out of greater involvement in Syria because it\u2019s a civil war and the U.S. could actually end up helping anti-American extremist groups.<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p>The poll showed that opposition to getter involvement in Syria was across the political spectrum: Of those who are Independents 65 percent agree the U.S. should stay out of Syria, Democrats (69 percent) and Republicans (70) agree.<\/p>\n<p>Of voters who have served in the military 67 percent say the U.S. should not intervene.<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p>The opposition of American voters is understandable after two long, costly and unnecessary wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Americans have not forgotten that the Bush administration used the claim that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction as a pretext for invading that country. That claim proved to be false.<\/p>\n<p>***<\/p>\n<p>There is evidence that the U.S. could be making the mistake of getting involved in a civil war that is not vital to U.S. national security interest and that could actually end up arming anti-American extremist groups.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Indeed, there is\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" title=\"substantial doubt\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonsblog.com\/2013\/05\/see-for-yourself-syrian-government-likely-did-not-use-chemical-weapons.html\">substantial doubt<\/a> that the Syrian government \u2014 as opposed to\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" title=\"other parties\" href=\"http:\/\/rt.com\/news\/sarin-gas-turkey-al-nusra-021\/\">other parties<\/a>, or even<a target=\"_blank\" title=\"other countries\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonsblog.com\/2013\/05\/bush-official-syria-chemical-weapons-attack-israeli-false-flag-operation.html\">other\u00a0<em>countries<\/em><\/a> \u2014 used chemical weapons.<\/p>\n<p>And we are\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" title=\"backing Al Qaeda and other terrorists in Syria, and pissing off Hezbollah and other terrorist groups even more\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonsblog.com\/2013\/05\/our-al-qaeda-terrorists-are-getting-beat-up-by-their-hezbollah-terrorists.html\"><em><strong>backing<\/strong><\/em> Al Qaeda and other terrorists in Syria, and\u00a0<em><strong>pissing off<\/strong><\/em> Hezbollah and other terrorist groups even more<\/a>.
