slapping student to \u2018wake him up\u2019 (VIDEO)\"\/><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p>    <\/a>\n<\/div>\n<p>UFT representative James Parisi actually testified against the measure during the hearing, complaining that the proposed law unfairly singles out school employees and expressing concern that other random adults \u2013 such as store managers and legislators \u2013 aren\u2019t included, GoodSchoolHunting <a href=\"https:\/\/goodschoolhunting.org\/2019\/04\/teachers-unions-oppose-bill-make-sex-students-crime.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Parisi also claimed that teachers getting busy with students \u201cisn\u2019t really a problem\u201d in Rhode Island, adding that teachers caught in flagrante were punished enough with the loss of their job and state teaching license.<br \/>However, Rhode Island received a near-failing grade in a USA Today <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/2016\/02\/14\/broken-discipline-tracking-system-lets-teachers-with-misconduct-records-back-in-classroom\/79999634\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">investigation<\/a> of states\u2019 background check practices, thanks to poor mandatory reporting laws and weak rules regarding sharing information on teacher misconduct with other states \u2013 meaning a teacher booted from their position for having sex with a student could simply cross state lines and start teaching again with a clean slate, depending on that state\u2019s own background check procedures.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Rhode Island is one of the few US states that have no \u201c<em>in loco parentis<\/em>\u201d exceptions to their statutory rape laws that protect minors above the age of consent from abuse by adults in positions of power over them \u2013 whether they\u2019re teachers, scout leaders, clergy, or other authority figures.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"read-more-big\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/425434-parents-outraged-revenge-sex\/\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n    <span class=\"read-more-big__container\"><br \/>\n        <span class=\"read-more-big__content\"><br \/>\n            <span class=\"read-more-big__subtitle\">Also on rt.com<\/span><br \/>\n            <span class=\"read-more-big__title\">Parents outraged after \u2018revenge sex\u2019 and \u2018baby daddy\u2019 issues appear on school assignment<\/span><br \/>\n        <\/span><br \/>\n            <span class=\"read-more-big__cover lazyload\" data-bgset=\"https:\/\/cdni.rt.com\/files\/2018.04\/thumbnail\/5ae4a215dda4c8cc708b45f9.jpg\" data-sizes=\"auto\"\/><br \/>\n    <\/span><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, earlier this week, a fifth-grade teacher and softball coach at an elementary school in Warwick, Rhode Island was arrested and <a href=\"https:\/\/patch.com\/rhode-island\/coventry\/warwick-elementary-school-teacher-arrested-child-porn-charges\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">charged<\/a> with possession of child pornography.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>If you like this story, share it with a friend!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/455701-teachers-unions-oppose-criminalization-sex\/?utm_source=rss&#038;utm_medium=rss&#038;utm_campaign=RSS\">RT<\/a>.
