{"id":402077,"date":"2019-03-31T05:25:10","date_gmt":"2019-03-31T04:25:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/students-support-socialismbut-not-when-it-comes-to-their-gpas\/"},"modified":"2019-03-31T05:25:10","modified_gmt":"2019-03-31T04:25:10","slug":"students-support-socialismbut-not-when-it-comes-to-their-gpas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/students-support-socialismbut-not-when-it-comes-to-their-gpas\/","title":{"rendered":"Students support socialism\u2026but not when it comes to their GPAs"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>      <!-- START CONTENT --><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.campusreform.org\/?ID=12038\"><strong>Campus Reform<\/strong><\/a><br \/>March 29, 2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>With far left candidates and policies on the rise in America, it\u2019s no surprise that for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2018\/08\/14\/fewer-than-half-of-young-americans-are-positive-about-capitalism.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">first time<\/a> ever, more young people say they\u2019d prefer to live in a socialist country over a capitalist one.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Whether it\u2019s free healthcare, free college tuition, or universal basic income, students around America increasingly support higher taxes on the wealthy in order to pay for these progressive policies. \u00a0But would they support similar policies if they had skin in the game?<\/p>\n<p>To find out, <em>Campus Reform<\/em>\u2018s Cabot Phillips went to Florida International University in Miami to test the waters on a \u201cSocialist GPA\u201d policy in which students with higher GPAs would be forced to \u201cspread the wealth\u201d and give some of their GPA points to students with lower GPAs.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the overwhelming number of students who initially said they\u2019d support socialist policies, few agreed to go along with such a plan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m all for helping, but I wouldn\u2019t give some of my points\u2026 I\u2019ve lost a lot of sleep so I don\u2019t know if that would be fair,\u201d one student said, while another answered no because \u201cI like, study all day for my grades.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Yet another student, after expressing her support for socialism in America conceded, \u201cI guess it would be kind of hypocritical for me to say no.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another student, trying to justify his refusal to abide by such a policy, said, \u201cyou study for your grades, and they reflect how much time you\u2019re studying.\u201d What did the rest of the students have to say when asked why it was any different when it came to spreading the financial wealth?<!-- [donotprint] --><\/p>\n<ul class=\"ppani\">\n<li>A d v e r t i s e m e n t<\/li>\n<li\/><\/ul>\n<p><!-- [\/donotprint] --><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>WATCH:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><center><span class=\"fr-video fr-fvc fr-dvi fr-draggable\" contenteditable=\"false\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yCPcM8GlptM\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/center><\/p>\n<p>      <!-- END CONTENT --><\/p>\n<p style=\"color:#333;
