Once\u00a0again<\/a>, 2019 headlines appear contrived to\u00a0vindicate<\/a>my old ideas.<\/p>\n

For instance, last week\u2019s amusing face-off between freshman\u00a0Rep. Ilhan Omar<\/a>, leader of the Congressional\u00a0hijab<\/em>\u00a0caucus, and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi over Omar\u2019s tweets about the influence of Jewish campaign contributions on American foreign policy was a classic illustration of my\u00a0theory<\/a>\u00a0that the Democrats are a\u00a0coalition of the fringes<\/a>\u00a0who can overcome their loathing of each other only by cultivating their mutual hatred of core Americans.<\/p>\n

Just how much Jewish Democrats give to politicians I approximate below.<\/p>\n

Omar, the fearless Somali bumpkin from North Dakota State U., outraged influential Jewish donors and their loyal politicians by repeatedly going all\u00a0Black Hawk Down<\/em><\/a>, daring to mention the long unmentionable: the impact of Jewish donations on Washington\u2019s pro-Israel slant.<\/p>\n

Rep.\u00a0Eliot Engel<\/a>\u00a0(D-NY), the new chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, sputtered at the Islamic upstart: \u201cIt is shocking to hear a member of Congress invoke the anti-Semitic\u00a0trope<\/a>\u00a0of \u2018Jewish money.\u2019\u201d

\u201cTrope\u201d is an increasingly fashionable term out of deconstructionist literary theory. The word basically means \u201cclich\u00e9\u201d or \u201cstereotype,\u201d but it is intended to obviate your tiresome quibbles about whether or not a particular clich\u00e9 or stereotype is true by assuming away the relevance of truth.<\/p>\n

The use of \u201ctrope\u201d signals a faith in the lit theory that the concept of \u201creality\u201d is irrelevant, perhaps fictitious, and definitely oppressive. There\u2019s no such thing as nature, only social constructs, which can presumably be deconstructed…<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
