Meghan McCain\u2019s angry, teary tirade on The View over \u201cscary\u201d anti-Semitism has sparked an outpouring of mockery and criticism online, with some going so far as to call it the \u201csingle dumbest thing\u201d on TV. <\/p>\n
McCain\u2019s performance was part of a heated segment of The View devoted to this week\u2019s political storm over Ilhan Omar\u2019s comments about Israel\u2019s place in US politics and the Democrats\u2019 resolution condemning anti-Semitism that followed her remarks.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis issue is a really intense one for me,\u201d<\/em> McCain said before making her first point about not politicizing the issue by drawing comparisons between Charlottesville white supremacists, \u201csaying \u2018Jews will not replace us\u2019\u201d<\/em> and Omar, accusing her of \u201cdog-whistle moments.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n The daughter of the late Republican Senator John McCain grew visibly irritated as other panelists spoke, and a little catty as she tried to interrupt Sunny Hostin, who questioned whether Omar\u2019s criticism of Israel is anti-Semitic and spoke about her Jewish grandfather. \u201cAre you comfortable with me speaking now?\u201d<\/em> McCain asked. \u201cAre we comfortable with me rebutting now?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Meghan McCain using white crocodile tears to portray Ilhan Omar as “scary” and speak over an ethnically Jewish woman who disagrees with her is the most on-brand Christian Zionist thing ever https:\/\/t.co\/qQkmWOK2OS<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 Rebecca Pierce🕸 (@aptly_engineerd) March 7, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n McCain explained she \u201cwould go so far as to say I probably verge on being a Zionist as well,\u201d<\/em> and said that while she doesn\u2019t have Jewish family, former Congressman Joe Lieberman and his wife Hadassah Lieberman are like her family.<\/p>\n \u201cI take the hate crimes raising in this country incredibly seriously, and I think what\u2019s happening in Europe is really scary and I\u2019m sorry if I\u2019m getting emotional.\u201d<\/em> she said. \u201cWhat Ilhan Omar is saying is very scary to me and a lot of people and I don\u2019t think you have to be Jewish to recognize that.\u201d<\/em> she added.<\/p>\n Many took issue with McCain\u2019s teary reaction, accusing her of \u2018crocodile tears\u2019, with a number of Jewish people expressing displeasure at McCain\u2019s emotions on their behalf.<\/p>\n The most offensive thing to me as a Jew is seeing Meghan McCain blubber while saying she\u2019s terrified of Ilhan Omar on my behalf<\/p>\n \u2014 Molly Crabapple (@mollycrabapple) March 7, 2019<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n The only thing that truly made @MeghanMcCain<\/a> cry was a Muslim woman of colour.
