Maxine Waters (D., Calif.) and other House Democrats called an amendment to the Green New Deal from Rep. Sean Duffy (R., Wis.) \u201cnot serious,\u201d during a Wednesday House Financial Services Committee meeting that addressed a portion of the bill proposing a provision requiring energy-efficient housing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/79E44bFpXiU\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Duffy\u2019s amendment criticized the bill for requiring that all American housing units \u201cretroactively upgrade\u201d to renewable energies such as wind turbines or solar power. Duffy noted that such upgrades would not be feasible in his home state of Wisconsin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can\u2019t have, especially where I live, zero-emission renewable energy in Wausau, Wis. It doesn\u2019t happen,\u201d he said. \u201cWe just had a polar vortex: We don\u2019t have enough wind for windmills to heat our homes or drive our cars. We don\u2019t have solar panels that are going to heat our homes in the winter. It thoroughly doesn\u2019t exist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Duffy said that this portion the Green New Deal was \u201ccatastrophic for American housing,\u201d and requested that his amendment to it be debated.
