The ING International Survey Savings 2019, the eighth in an annual series, surveyed 14,695\u00a0people in Europe, the US, and Australia, and discovered the majority worry about not having enough money in retirement. The findings show that many people are \u201csleepwalking<\/a>\u201d into a financial crisis with little or no savings toward their golden years.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Half of the retirees in Europe tell ING that their standard of living has dramatically declined due to their underfunded retirement\u00a0plan. Two in five of those in Europe who have not yet retired say they expect to get less in retirement than they paid into their pension.<\/p>\n

And\u00a0more than half of Europeans who have not yet retired tell ING\u00a0they expect to work in the gig-economy\u00a0to continue generating income streams well into their retirement.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The shocker: One in four\u00a0Europeans had no savings at the end of 2018 when this report\u00a0was conducted, making it\u00a0virtually impossible to save towards retirement.\u00a0Beyond Europe, a similar ratio of non-savers existed\u00a0in\u00a0the US\u00a0and Australia.<\/p>\n

ING said the worst outlooks for people were in\u00a0Spain and France, where more than two-thirds of people said they might not have enough money for retirement. The survey notes that the Dutch are the most\u00a0optimistic about their retirement. In the US, two-thirds of\u00a0respondents said they worried about not having enough savings for retirement.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Bloomberg<\/a>\u00a0chart shows\u00a0the Dutch have the brightest outlook on retirement because they are saving much longer. The\u00a0average respondent in the Netherland retires around\u00a067 years old.\"\"\/<\/p>\n
