Legendary cowboy actor and all-American tough guy John Wayne has posthumously infuriated social justice types, after a 1971 interview resurfaced in which the \u2018True Grit\u2019 actor criticized racial equality and homosexuality.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Playboy magazine almost 50 years ago, Wayne unleashed a series of statements that would have him fired, sued, tarred and feathered if he uttered them in 2019. Wayne referred to \u201chealthy, lusty sex\u201d<\/em> between a man and a woman as \u201cwonderful,\u201d<\/em> but called homosexuality \u201cperverted,\u201d<\/em> dismissing the Oscar-winning \u2018Midnight Cowboy\u2019 as \u201ca love story about two f*gs.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u2018The Duke\u2019 then slammed calls for reparations for Native Americans, saying \u201cthey should pay as much for Alcatraz as we paid them Manhattan.\u201d<\/em> Wayne blasted Hollywood for its \u201ctokenism\u201d<\/em> and told Playboy that \u201cwe can\u2019t all of a sudden get down on our knees and turn everything over to the leadership of the blacks.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cI believe in white supremacy until the blacks are educated to the point of responsibility,\u201d<\/em> Wayne stated. \u201cI don\u2019t believe in giving authority and positions of leadership and judgement to irresponsible people.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Predictably, Wayne\u2019s most definitely un-woke worldview ruffled some feathers on Twitter.<\/p>\n I was a 16 in 1971. I’ve known John Wayne was a scmuck and a bigot since he started doing interviews.
