Muslims in NYC are carrying out \u201ccommunity patrols\u201d in Brooklyn while driving cars that look almost identical to NYPD vehicles, leading some to describe the situation as \u201cSharia Police\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The New York Times<\/a> wrote a lengthy, glowing piece about the patrols, with one hijab-wearing Muslim woman commenting that they made her feel safe from harassment.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith everything going on, you sort of feel like the whole world is against Muslims,\u201d she said. \u201cSo it feels good to know that there is someone there, watching out.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to CAIR, the group is the first of its kind in the entire country, and a justifiable response to the \u201c14 bias-crime incidents recorded against Muslims\u201d last year (in a city of 8.6 million people).<\/p>\n

The group\u2019s vice president Noor Rabah said the patrols were \u201clike a neighborhood watch but on steroids\u201d. Currently boasting 30 members, the group plans to grow \u201cits fleet of two cars to five by the end of the month and eventually expanding citywide.\u201d<\/p>\n
