Some critics say it\u2019s a ploy to grab a free vacation.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Gabbard\u2019s announcement last weekend that she will challenge Donald Trump for the presidency in 2020 united the left and the right in panic. A combat veteran, the Hawaiian congresswoman unveiled a platform focused on foreign policy issues, namely opposition to foreign wars and intervention. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Gabbard had long been an opponent of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as Barack Obama\u2019s air campaign in Syria. A 2017 meeting with Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad was enough to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/448632-tulsi-gabbard-negative-reactions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">convince<\/a> the establishment that Gabbard was an <em>\u201cAssad sympathizer,\u201d<\/em> an agent of the Kremlin, and a racist, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/448809-tulsi-gabbard-gay-marriage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">homophobic<\/a>, right-wing plant.<\/p>\n<p>Caroline Orr, a researcher and editor with <em>\u201cBreitbart on the left\u201d<\/em> Shareblue, started digging. Of the 15 most shared URLs by <em>\u201cRussian-linked disinformation accounts\u201d<\/em> on Tuesday, a whopping three mentioned Gabbard. As an aside, the list of what accounts are <em>\u201cRussian-linked\u201d<\/em> is compiled by a firm called New Knowledge, which was recently busted for running two online election-meddling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/448269-roy-moore-fake-campaign\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">campaigns<\/a> of its own in Alabama. As a further aside, New Knowledge doesn\u2019t make its list of <em>\u201cRussian-linked\u201d<\/em> accounts public or reveal its methodology. You\u2019ll have to take their word for it.<\/p>\n<div class=\"rtcode\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Three of the top 15 URL&#8217;s shared over the past 24 hours by 800 Russian-linked disinformation accounts tracked by Disinfo2018 are about Tulsi Gabbard, the pro-Putin, pro-Assad congresswoman who just announced she&#8217;s running for POTUS in 2020. The Shareblue researcher set up a crowdfunding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/investigate-tulsi-gabbard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">page<\/a> to raise money for a trip to Hawaii to interview Gabbard\u2019s constituents and dig up dirt. <em>\u201cTulsi is a noxious politician who presents a serious threat of dividing the left,\u201d<\/em> Orr wrote, <em>\u201cwhich is exactly why Russia likes her.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"rtcode\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We set up the crowdfunding page as soon as she announced her candidacy b\/c we&#8217;ve been worried about her for months. One commenter, \u2018Jessica\u2019, smelled a rat:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cYou aren&#8217;t going to \u2018discover\u2019 anything that isn&#8217;t already public knowledge, especially not by going to a state where she won 83% of the vote. Bravo on scamming people to crowdfund your Hawaiian vacation.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Gabbard comfortably defeated Republican challenger Brian Evans in November, keeping Hawaii\u2019s 2nd Congressional District seat with 77.4 percent of the vote. Still though, Hawaii is a balmy 80 degrees fahrenheit (26C) in January, a welcome change from 38f (3C) in freezing, snowy DC.<\/p>\n<p>Orr was quickly called out, not just for trying to extract money from the anti-Trump, pro-establishment crowd, but for doing it to fund a trip to the land of Aloha.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOf all the Russiagate grifts, trying to crowd-fund a vacation to Hawaii is the best I&#8217;ve seen,\u201d<\/em> wrote DC Sentinel reporter Sam Sacks.<\/p>\n<div class=\"rtcode\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-cards=\"hidden\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Brilliant &#8220;investigating Tulsi Gabbard&#8221; grift. When Trump\u2019s former attorney Michael Cohen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/436622-michael-cohen-crowdfunding-trump-truth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">turned<\/a> on his old boss and promised to <em>\u201ctell the truth\u201d<\/em> about the president, a crowdfunding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/hqjupj-michael-cohen-truth-fund\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">page<\/a> set up by his lawyer raked in $185,000. Campaigns for former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe and former FBI agent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/peterstrzok\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Peter Strzok<\/a> raised almost one million dollars between them.<\/p>\n<p>A campaign to raise money for Dr. Christine Blasey Ford \u2013 who accused Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault last year \u2013 was among the most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/help-christine-blasey-ford\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">lucrative<\/a>, taking in almost $650,000 from Democrats determined to keep Kavanaugh out of the nation\u2019s highest court.<\/p>\n<p>Porn star Stormy Daniels managed to take in $587,000 to fund her defamation case against Trump, before a federal judge tossed the suit in October. In a bitter twist of irony, the judge ordered Daniels to pay Trump\u2019s legal fees, meaning at least some of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crowdjustice.com\/case\/stormy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">donations<\/a> ended up in Trump\u2019s pocket.<\/p>\n<p>All of these campaigns focused on the president. Orr\u2019s is notable in that it targets a Democrat who doesn\u2019t follow the party\u2019s new orthodoxy.
