A statue of the Saudi Arabian flag is to be removed from World Trade Centre grounds after several people made complaints about its proximity to the site of the September 11th attacks.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The statue is a part of an art installation sponsored by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey featuring the flags of G20 countries\u2014Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, the European Union, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States\u2014as candy with their respective flags as the wrappers<\/p>\n

Created by French Artist Laurence Jenkell, the \u201cCandy Nations\u201d exhibit was originally commissioned in 2011 ahead of the G20 summit in Cannes, France, and was supported by \u201ccompanies and organisations including the Chanel Foundation, the International Olympic Committee and Coca-Cola,\u201d according to Port Authority.<\/p>\n

The \u201cCandy Nations\u201d exhibit was in display in New York\u2019s Garment District Alliance\u2019s Art on the Plazas programme before its display on the World Trade Centre\u00a0campus.<\/p>\n

Soon after the exhibit was displayed on the World Trade Centre, complaints about the Saudi Arabian flag\u2019s presence near the tragic site started flooding Twitter.<\/p>\n
