The survey which embraced 25,000 people showed 53 percent of support for the final say vote. 47 percent of Brits stood against it \u2013 excluding those answering <em>\u201cdon\u2019t know.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"read-more-big\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/447994-brexit-vote-davis-may\/\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n    <span class=\"read-more-big__container\"><br \/>\n        <span class=\"read-more-big__content\"><br \/>\n            <span class=\"read-more-big__subtitle\">Also on rt.com<\/span><br \/>\n            <span class=\"read-more-big__title\">\u2018Time is your friend\u2019: Ex-Brexit sec urges Theresa May to delay Brexit vote for 2nd time<\/span><br \/>\n        <\/span><br \/>\n        <span class=\"read-more-big__cover\" style=\"background-image: url('https:\/\/cdni.rt.com\/files\/2019.01\/thumbnail\/5c2df4b9fc7e93c6028b4642.JPG')\"\/><br \/>\n    <\/span><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If they are given the second chance to vote on whether or not to leave the EU, people would vote to stay an eight-point margin \u2013 54 to 46 percent. Interestingly, when the choice is to stay in the EU versus the Brexit deal proposed by Prime Minister Theresa May, the margin of victory for the Remain camp rises to 26 points (63-37 percent).<\/p>\n<p>Brexit aside, the poll uncovered high levels of pessimism among all voters about the prospect for living standards, the NHS and the economy.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, popular support for the second Brexit vote is apparently on the rise. For example, a Change.org <a href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/theresa-may-mp-give-people-a-final-say-on-brexit-deal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">petition<\/a> \u2013 in which the Independent championed a referendum on the final deal \u2013 garnered over 1.1 million votes at the time of writing.<\/p>\n<p>Authors of the petition have argued that <em>\u201cpeople on both sides should have the chance to finish what they started.\u201d<\/em> After years of government discussions behind closed doors, <em>\u201cthe people must not be shut out of the final decision,\u201d<\/em> they say.<\/p>\n<p>However, May\u2019s commitment to going ahead with the Commons vote was backed by Health Secretary Matt Hancock, who warned that a second Brexit referendum would be <em>\u201cdivisive, not decisive.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"read-more-big\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rt.com\/news\/448057-afd-germany-eu-withdrawal\/\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n    <span class=\"read-more-big__container\"><br \/>\n        <span class=\"read-more-big__content\"><br \/>\n            <span class=\"read-more-big__subtitle\">Also on rt.com<\/span><br \/>\n            <span class=\"read-more-big__title\">Dexit after Brexit? Earlier in January, former Brexit Secretary David Davis <a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/politics\/2019\/01\/02\/preparing-no-deal-properly-will-get-good-brexit-democracy-demands\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">suggested<\/a> that because the EU is so fearful of losing the \u00a339 billion (US$49 billion) <em>\u201cdivorce payment,\u201d a deal could be brokered \u201cat the eleventh hour.\u201d<\/em> That said, May should hold on and postpone the <em>\u201cmeaningful vote.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Previously, the UK parliamentary vote on the Brexit deal was withdrawn at the last minute by May\u2019s Tory government and re-scheduled for January 15.
