He is currently serving a life sentence for his participation in the sadistic 1969 murder of musician Gary Hinman, who was tortured for three days before being killed. The convicted killer has previously been denied parole 18 times.<\/p>\n<div class=\"read-more\">\n<p>Read more<\/p>\n<p>    <a class=\"read-more__link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/410359-murderer-charles-manson-dies\/\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n                    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"read-more__cover\" src=\"https:\/\/cdni.rt.com\/files\/2017.11\/thumbnail\/5a126f99fc7e932a4d8b4567.jpg\" alt=\"Charles Manson \u00a9 California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation\"\/><br \/>\n    <\/a>\n<\/div>\n<p>Beausoleil\u2019s attorney insisted that his client was a changed man.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIn my view, [he] hasn\u2019t been dangerous in decades,\u201d<\/em> Jason Campbell told CNN. He described Beausoleil as a <em>\u201cvery conscientious, thoughtful, and introspective person\u201d <\/em>who<em> \u201chas spent the last 50 years gradually growing and improving himself.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Not everyone is rooting for Beausoleil\u2019s release, however.<\/p>\n<p>Hinman\u2019s cousin expressed disappointment over the decision.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI don&#8217;t understand why you would let someone out who has committed such a gruesome crime. Do you want him walking down the street next to you? This is a matter of public safety,\u201d<\/em> Kay Hinman Martley said.<\/p>\n<p>There are still two major hurdles that Beausoleil must overcome before he can secure his release. The Board of Parole Hearings staff still need to review his case. If they sign off on his parole, the final decision rests with California Governor Gavin Newsom.<\/p>\n<p>In the late 1960s, Manson and his followers were responsible for a string of brutal murders as part of a plot to ignite a race war.<\/p>\n<p>Beausoleil, however, was not involved in the group\u2019s notorious murder of pregnant actress Sharon Tate and six others.<\/p>\n<p>Manson died in prison in November 2017.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Like this story?
