Amazon workers across Europe staged a walkout on Black Friday\u2014when retailers offer major deals to holiday season shoppers the day after Thanksgiving\u2014to protest low wages as well as \u201c<\/span>inhuman conditions<\/a>\u201d at company warehouses.<\/span><\/p>\n

Eduardo Hernandez, a 38-year-old employee at an Amazon logistics depot in Madrid, <\/span>Spain<\/a>\u2014where about 90 percent of staff walked off the job\u2014told<\/a> the <\/span>Associated Press <\/span>that the action was intentionally scheduled on the popular shopping day to negatively impacting the company\u2019s profits.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is one of the days that Amazon has most sales, and these are days when we can hurt more and make ourselves be heard because the company has not listened to us and does not want to reach any agreement,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Protests were also planned for Amazon facilities in Italy, <\/span>France<\/a>, the United Kingdom, and Germany.<\/p>\n

Some <\/span>620 employees<\/a> <\/span>at Amazon distribution centers in Rheinberg and Bad Hersfeld, Germany joined the walkout to demand higher wages,<\/em> <\/span>while union members in the UK <\/span>organized<\/a> <\/span>actions at five warehouses across the country to highlight safety concerns.<\/p>\n
