The majority of cases identified by the whistleblower involve girls who identify as boys or as \u2018non-binary.\u2019 The anonymous teacher also noted that transgender YouTube stars were also responsible for influencing pupils.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"900\" height=\"506\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/l01xT2VdnfQ\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the paper, the teacher said: <em>\u201cI was discussing the topic of menstruation during a class recently and was called out by one of the pupils who now identifies as a boy for failing to say that boys can have periods too.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOf course they can\u2019t and it sounds like a joke, but a lot of teachers are terrified of making a slip-up.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The news comes as links between autism and gender identity are coming under increased scrutiny.<\/p>\n<p>A London clinic for transgender children reported that a third of their patients had \u2018moderate or severe autistic traits.\u2019 Specialists at the Tavistock Center\u2019s Gender Identity Development Service treated 1,069 under-18s between 2011 and 2017. Some 372 of the teenage subjects were deemed to exhibit some autistic traits, according to an internal review conducted in June this year.<\/p>\n<p>The center came in for criticism for not doing more to publicize the issue.<\/p>\n<p>Consultant Clinical Psychologist Dr Sally Powis recognized that, while the issue is under-researched, scientific papers show a disproportionate level of those on the autism spectrum having gender dysphoria.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/news\/441760-dutch-first-gender-neutral-passport\/\">READ MORE:\u00a0Gender X: Netherlands issues its first gender-neutral passport after govt loses court battle<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During an interview with Network Autism, Dr Powis warned that it was very difficult to distinguish between \u2018genuine\u2019 gender dysphoria in those with autism and a <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/163281060\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u2018phase\u2019 or obsession<\/a> that the subject might be experiencing.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/163281959\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Adding that<\/a>\u00a0\u201cpeople on the spectrum as children might be less clued-in to social norms,\u201d<\/em> and that she suspected this discrepancy could be a result of autistic people being<em> \u201cmore honest about their sexuality than the rest of us.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;They are not trying to be one thing or the other that we all think we have to do to be accepted.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The expert recommended that autistic people with gender identity issues should be treated on a case-by-case basis.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/news\/437477-women-caned-malaysia-lesbian\/\">READ MORE:\u00a02 women caned for \u2018attempting lesbian sex\u2019 in Malaysia<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the Tavistock Center said that the link between the condition and gender dysphoria was not new. <em>\u201cAll young people attending our service undertake a comprehensive assessment over a period of time.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThere is general consensus that a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder is not a reason in itself to exclude individuals from treatment for gender dysphoria,\u201d<\/em> they added.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Think your friends would be interested?
