Hair-raising photos of the damaged device were shared on social media.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>In a shocking Twitter post, Rahel Mohamad said he was simply updating his iPhone X to the latest system, iOS 12.1, when the appalling incident occurred. He shared some alarming photos showing the severely damaged phone with a melted cover screen and major burn marks.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cDark grey smoke started coming from the phone,\u201d<\/em> Mohamad, who lives in Washington, <a href=\"https:\/\/gadgets.ndtv.com\/mobiles\/news\/iphone-x-got-hot-and-exploded-claims-user-apple-investigates-1947200\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">told<\/a> Gadget360. <em>\u201cThe update was completed and as soon as the phone turned on it started to smoke and caught fire.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>He said he had been charging the device using an Apple Lightning Cable and Wall Adapter while the phone was updating, but removed it from the charger when he suddenly noticed it was becoming hot.<\/p>\n<div class=\"rtcode\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet tw-align-center\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&#8216;Passengers on a Barcelona-Ibiza flight on the ground in Barcelona experienced an emergency evacuation caused by a mobile phone&#8230;&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/q0QepI699l\">https:\/\/t.co\/q0QepI699l<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 RT (@RT_com) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RT_com\/status\/1024975029946200064?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 2, 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p><em>\u201cWhen I held the phone it was very hot and I drop [sic] the phone immediately. Then it started to smoke,\u201d<\/em> he explained of the terrifying incident.<\/p>\n<p>Apple responded to Mohamad\u2019s tweet with a remarkably staid message, noting: <em>\u201cThat\u2019s definitely not expected behavior.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In a later message pointing out that the tech giant said it couldn\u2019t meet with him about the strange self-destructing phone for a week, Mohamad said he had resorted to simply mailing his phone to Apple so they could investigate.<\/p>\n<p>RT has contacted the company for comment on the incident.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/viral\/378538-iphone-7-explosion-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">READ MORE:Smokin&#8217;!
