All three of these groups had been on the blacklist.<\/p>\n<p>In November 2016, the <em>Washington Post<\/em> published a puff-piece on a shadowy, and up to then largely unknown, organization called PropOrNot, which had compiled a list of organizations it claimed were part of a \u201csophisticated Russian propaganda campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Post<\/em> said the report \u201cidentifies more than 200 websites as routine peddlers of Russian propaganda during the election season, with combined audiences of at least 15 million Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The publication of the blacklist drew widespread media condemnation, including from journalists Matt Taibbi and Glenn Greenwald, forcing the <em>Post<\/em> to publish a partial retraction. The newspaper declared that it \u201cdoes not itself vouch for the validity of PropOrNot\u2019s findings regarding any individual media outlet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the individuals behind PropOrNot have not identified themselves, the <em>Washington Post<\/em> said the group was a \u201ccollection of researchers with foreign policy, military and technology backgrounds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>PropOrNot, which remains active on Twitter, publicly gloated about Facebook\u2019s removal of the pages. \u201cRussian propaganda is VERY VERY MAD about their various front outlets &amp; fellow travellers getting suspended by @Facebook &amp;\/or @Twitter.\u201d The tweet tagged The&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsws.org\/en\/articles\/2018\/10\/13\/cens-o13.html\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0 Pages purged by Facebook were on blacklist promoted by Washington Post By Andre Damon 13 October 2018 Media outlets removed by Facebook on Thursday, in a massive purge of 800 accounts and pages, had previously been targeted in a blacklist of oppositional sites promoted by the Washington Post in November 2016.
