Extraordinary renditions include arbitrary abductions and extrajudicial transfers from one country to another. Targeted individuals are called terrorists.<\/p>\n
Corroborating evidence isn\u2019t needed. What Washington says goes. Rogue hegemons operate that way.<\/p>\n
International, constitutional, and US statute laws don\u2019t matter. They\u2019re spurned. Victims are guilty by accusation. It\u2019s official US policy.<\/p>\n
Before leaving office in January 1993, a classified GHW Bush National Security Directive (NSD 77)<\/span><\/a> established the rendition process.<\/p>\n Bill Clinton\u2019s June 1995 Presidential Directive (PDD 39)<\/span><\/a> authorized \u201call legal means available to exclude from the United States persons who pose a terrorist threat and deport or otherwise remove from the United States any such aliens.\u201d<\/p>\n Post-9\/11, GW Bush authorized \u201cwar on terror\u201d abductions and renditions. He did so to CIA and Pentagon-run torture prisons. A global network was established. It exists in numerous countries.<\/p>\n It includes US ships at sea. Special ones are staffed and equipped for that purpose. They\u2019re out of sight and mind. Ghost prisoner survivors call them worst of all.<\/p>\n On May 22, The Rendition Project<\/span><\/a> (TRP) announced its \u201cGlobal Rendition System\u201d database and interactive map.<\/p>\n It\u2019s a collaborative UK-based University of Kent Dr. Ruth Blakeley\/Kingston University Dr. Sam Raphael research project.<\/p>\n It\u2019s purpose is to provide \u201ca detailed analysis of its component parts and a clearer understanding of how they fit together.\u201d<\/p>\n Focus is on tracking global CIA flights. They\u2019re used to transfer detainees \u201cbetween secret prisons for continued detention and torture.\u201d<\/p>\n Washington\u2019s post-9\/11 \u201cwar on terror\u201d launched it. Extrajudicial detention was authorized. So were lawless renditions and torture.<\/p>\n \u201cOverall, this system has involved the detention and torture, in secret, of hundreds of detainees, in scores of detention sites around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cRenditions between detention sites in a range of countries have been carried out using a variety of aircraft supplied by private contractors, and states allied to the US (including several European states) have been actively involved, or passively complicit, in the crimes committed.\u201d<\/p>\n Blakeley and Raphael work closely with Reprieve<\/span><\/a>. It \u201cdelivers justice and saves lives, from death row to Guantanamo Bay.\u201d<\/p>\n It uses law to enforce human rights. It does so for prisoners. It investigates, litigates, educates, and \u201cwork(s) on the frontline. (It) provide(s) legal support to prisoners unable to pay for it themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n It promotes rule of law justice. It\u2019s rarer than ever today. Western-sponsored state terror represents a heavy challenge. The Rendition Project (TRP) said Reprieve \u201cled the way in investigating secret prisons and representing victims of rendition and torture.\u201d<\/p>\n It\u2019s also involved in discovering \u201cwhere people were held, how they were treated, and who was responsible for the human rights abuses they suffered.\u201d<\/p>\n Users can now search TRP\u2019s Rendition Flights Database. Doing so lets them \u201caccess comprehensive analyses\u201d of prisons and aircraft used. They can track detainee movements.<\/p>\n They can explore vital issues. They can understand more about rendition, secret detention, and torture. They can learn how they violate fundamental human rights law.<\/p>\n They can read firsthand victim accounts. A \u201chuge repository of primary documents\u201d is maintained. They include \u201cgovernment memos, court papers, flight data and past investigative reports.\u201d<\/p>\n Evidence for each case is available. Reprieve\u2019s web site highlighted TRP\u2019s Global Rendition System project.<\/p>\n Data comes from FOIA requests, legal cases, firsthand accounts, NGO investigations, and authentic news reporting. Washington maintains a global \u201cblack site\u201d network.<\/p>\n Thorough analysis deconstructs what\u2019s going on. Information is provided on more than 11,000 flights by over 120 aircraft. They\u2019re linked to more than 50 private companies.<\/p>\n Complicity of numerous countries is revealed. Companies tried covering their tracks. They filed false flight plans. They switched aircraft from point of origin to final destination.<\/p>\n They knew they acted lawlessly. They tried concealing it. The more known exposes them. It\u2019s the first step to accountability. None so far exists.<\/p>\n Rendition\/detention\/torture co-conspirators remain free from prosecution. Sunshine is the best disinfectant. Justice is long overdue. Countless numbers of innocent victims still suffer. Many more will unless something\u2019s done.<\/p>\n Anyone called a terrorist for any reason or none can be locked away in gulag hell. Most victims are innocent. Perhaps they all are. Due process and judicial fairness are denied. Guilt by accusation is policy.<\/p>\n What remains ongoing is appalling. Most everything exists out of sight and mind. Media scoundrels are largely silent. What they know isn\u2019t disclosed. Occasional reports are sanitized. It\u2019s standard practice.<\/p>\n According to Raphael:<\/p>\n \u201cThe sheer scope of the CIA\u2019s rendition and torture system is brought to light as never before by our work, which shows in painstaking detail how terror suspects were kidnapped and transported to secret prisons across the globe for \u2018enhanced interrogation.\u2019 \u201d<\/p>\n Reprieve\u2019s Crofton Black added:<\/p>\n \u201cThis unprecedented database shows how false route filings, tarmac transfers, shell companies and the plausible deniability of executive jets masked a systematic programme of secret detention and torture run by the US with the active complicity of the UK and other European countries.\u201d<\/p>\n America\u2019s war on terror continues. Waging it reveals its dark side. It\u2019s lawless. There\u2019s no end in sight. Ending it requires public outrage. Arousing it depends on exposing what\u2019s too unconscionable to tolerate.<\/p>\n Not in our name means all of us. Everyone today is vulnerable. It\u2019s no time for complacency. Fundamental freedoms are assaulted. They\u2019re eroding and disappearing.<\/p>\n Regaining lost rights requires mass action. It won\u2019t happen any other way. Today is the most perilous time in world history.<\/p>\n The time to fight for what\u2019s right is now. Failure to do what\u2019s vital endangers everyone. If that\u2019s not incentive enough to act, what is?<\/p>\n Songwriter\/satirist\/lyricist Tom Lehrer<\/span><\/a> once wrote \u201cwe\u2019ll all go together when we go.\u201d He meant possible nuclear annihilation.
