\n <\/a>\n<\/div>\nIn her statement to parliament, Wednesday, May alluded to counter-measures against Moscow over the alleged involvement of two Russian military officers \u2013 named as Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov \u2013 in the poisonings of Sergei and Yulia Skripal in Salisbury and Charlie Rowley and Dawn Sturgess in Amesbury.<\/p>\n
The activities of Russia were, for May, a threat \u201call our allies and to all our citizens,\u201d<\/em> she then promised to do \u201cwhatever is necessary to keep our people safe\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\nMay, expectedly, didn’t tell parliament how authorities came to the conclusion that the pair worked for the GRU, an assertion that wasn\u2019t made by counter-terror police when they initially announced the suspects identities.<\/p>\n
According to \u201ca senior government official,\u201d<\/em> referenced in the Times, \u201cThe evidence that Russia carried out a chemical weapons attack on British soil has increased the actions the UK can take in self-defense.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\nAnonymous sources were also referenced in the Daily Mail and the Sun. In the latter, \u201ca senior security source\u201d<\/em> is quoted as saying: \u201cThey\u2019re going to have pay a cost for what they\u2019ve done. Nothing is off the table now.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\nThe Rupert Murdoch owned Sun, states: \u201csources insisted there was \u201cno doubt\u201d on the Joint Intelligence Committee \u2013 the overall security body that supervised the long investigation \u2013 that the Skrpial [sic] \u201cwet job\u201d was authorized by Putin personally.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\nNot wanting to miss out, The Daily Mail also referenced the cyberwarfare threats, but didn’t give a source for the information.
