Twitter is on fire with debate over almost simultaneous decisions by Facebook, Apple, YouTube and Spotify to take action against controversial right-wing YouTube host Alex Jones\u2019 and his InfoWars channel citing \u201chate speech\u201d.<\/p>\n
InfoWars Editor-at-large Paul Joseph Watson tweeted on Monday that Facebook had \u201cpermanently banned\u201d<\/a><\/em>\u00a0the outlets page for \u201cunspecified\u201d<\/em> hate speech and described the move as setting a \u201cchilling precedent for free speech\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n Facebook confirmed the banning in a blog post, saying the four InfoWars pages were targeted due to \u201crepeated violations of Community Standards and accumulating too many strikes\u201d<\/em>. In a statement, Apple said it \u201cdoes not tolerate hate speech\u201d<\/em> and said it believes in \u201crepresenting a wide range of views\u201d s<\/em>o long as people are \u201crespectful\u201d<\/em> of those with differing opinions.<\/p>\n YouTube quickly followed suit with a statement that said Jones\u2019 account had been \u201cterminated for violating YouTube’s Community Guidelines\u201d<\/em>. Spotify said it had removed all of Jones\u2019 podcast episodes due to \u201chate content\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n Twitter has been flooded with reactions to the decisions. Some people were delighted to see the controversial host banned and expressed disappointment that Twitter had not yet moved against InfoWars.<\/p>\n Apple removing Alex Jones & Infowars isn\u2019t some terrible form of censorship against conservatives.<\/p>\n He\u2019s said Sandy Hook wasn\u2019t real.
