Yesterday @UNICEF reported that they have repeatedly attacked facilities that provide drinking water,&#8221;<\/em> Power wrote. <em>&#8220;Horrifying in the extreme. US: end all support, full court press on Sept. peace talks.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/435018-haley-yemen-civilians-saudi-war\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">READ MORE:\u00a0Haley concerned Yemeni civilians &#8216;starting&#8217; to be at risk after 3-year war leaves 8 million starving<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Houthi-affiliated Yemen Health Ministry <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/news\/435073-hodeida-us-responsible-yemen-airstrikes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> that the United States <em>&#8220;bears full responsibility&#8221;<\/em> for the deadly strikes, which killed at least two dozen people. It was revealed in June that the US military has been working with the Saudi-led coalition to <em>&#8220;fine-tune&#8221;<\/em> its list of targets in Hodeida \u2013 purportedly in an effort to avoid civilian casualties.<\/p>\n<div class=\"rtcode\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">For a country whose attacks on civilians in Yemen &#8212; and inability to learn from mistakes &#8212; have been devastating to human life <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/iXudoN8In3\">https:\/\/t.co\/iXudoN8In3<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Samantha Power (@SamanthaJPower) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SamanthaJPower\/status\/865955708893843456?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 20, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>Long before the Trump administration took office, Power enabled and supported the <em>\u201chorrifying\u201d<\/em> Saudi-led attack on Yemen during her time as the Obama administration&#8217;s top diplomat at the UN.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, using her seat on the UN Security Council, Power backed a comically prejudiced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/press\/en\/2015\/sc11859.doc.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UNSC resolution<\/a> which essentially placed the blame for the conflict on the Houthi rebels resisting the Saudi-led invasion, imposing an arms embargo on the Houthis while failing to do the same for the US-supplied Saudi military. The Atlantic magazine <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/international\/archive\/2016\/09\/yemen-saudi-arabia-obama-riyadh\/501365\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reported<\/a> that the &#8220;unrealistic and one-sided resolution&#8221; had been &#8220;drafted by the Saudis, introduced by the British and passed with US support.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Power exemplified Washington&#8217;s startling silence in the face of increasingly concerning attacks carried out by Riyadh in Yemen, Politico reported in 2016. <em>&#8220;Ambassador Power even found herself defending an intervention in Yemen that has killed thousands of civilians&#8221; and &#8220;coincided with the spread of Al Qaeda,&#8221;<\/em> the Politico piece <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/magazine\/story\/2016\/07\/saudi-arabia-yemen-russia-syria-foreign-policy-united-nations-blackmail-214124#ixzz4Fv9KVwqT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">noted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/news\/435211-yemen-saudi-deals-aqap\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">READ MORE:\u00a0Saudi-led coalition \u2018victories\u2019 achieved by striking deals with Al-Qaeda in Yemen &#8211; AP report<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Power&#8217;s curiously-timed moral posturing did not go unnoticed. Asad Abukhalil, a professor at California State University and a well-known Middle East analyst, tweeted back: <em>&#8220;Where was your humanitarianism when you were a government official?&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>He wasn&#8217;t the only one who had a question for Power. <em>&#8220;Are you just counting on the world to forget who was American ambassador to the UN in 2015?&#8221;<\/em> one Twitter user asked.<\/p>\n<p>Another user responded to Power with more direct criticism: <em>&#8220;For 2.5 years you knew Yemeni civilians were being murdered by the Saudi regime using US weapons and logistics. You were saying &#8216;US doesn&#8217;t control the targeting&#8217;. While the US supplied weapons to the Saudi regime, you provided it with cover at the UN.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"rtcode\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">If only you adopted such antiwar fervor and denounced Saudi Arabia\u2019s crimes in Yemen when you were Obama\u2019s UN Ambassador.
