Last fall I warned you<\/a>\u00a0Facebook has a fundamental problem.<\/p>\n

More and more people were realizing it and it would have an effect on the company\u2019s business going forward.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the jist of it:<\/p>\n

\u2026the biggest problem with Facebook is it\u2019s all fake intimacy; a pale simulacra of real life interactions with people you are supposed to care about.<\/p>\n

But, I don\u2019t care about 99% of the people I went to high school with.\u00a0 I went to college 1100 miles from those people and barely looked back.\u00a0 The people I truly value from that part of my life mostly feel about Facebook the way I do.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s what makes them people I value.<\/p>\n

They value the value of their closely-held opinions and don\u2019t dilute it by publicly sharing their banality.\u00a0 They realize that being friends is more than dropping political stink bombs in someone\u2019s digital living room and saying, \u201cI dare you to not breathe.\u201d

So, here you are on a platform that is supposed to be all about you and the last thing anyone really wants to be on Facebook is \u2026 themselves.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In the November 2011 issue of the\u00a0Gold Goats \u2018n Guns Investment Newsletter\u00a0<\/a><\/strong>I led off that issue with this criticism of Facebook as a reason the company would soon hit the proverbial customer wall:<\/p>\n

Facebook was built on the false premise that we want to be in contact with all of the people we ever met ALL THE TIME.\u00a0 But no, we really don\u2019t.\u00a0 We all, as T.S. Eliot put it, \u201cprepare a face to meet the faces that you meet.\u201d<\/p>\n

We are all different people depending on our venue.\u00a0 Public social networks force us to adopt one persona or face the wrath of the self-righteous.<\/p>\n
