Recently, some of my friends singled out\u00a0this piece<\/a>\u00a0by Jeff Deist, president of the Mises Institute, as truly awful. When I actually read it, however, it seemed like a reasonable presentation of a plausible view.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

You know, I always say you can tell about a man by the company he keeps.\u00a0\u00a0While Caplan refers to the piece as \u201creasonable\u201d and \u201cplausible,\u201d his friends see it as \u201ctruly awful.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0What do his friends see as \u201ctruly awful\u201d?\u00a0\u00a0We can\u2019t know for sure, other than to perhaps infer something from the lines of Deist\u2019s speech cited by Caplan:<\/p>\n

We should prefer states\u2019 rights to federalization in the US, and cheer for the breakup of EU. We should support breakaway movements in places like Catalonia and Scotland and California.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Now maybe these are the parts Caplan finds \u201creasonable\u201d; maybe these are not the parts Caplan\u2019s friends find \u201ctruly awful.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0You might get some sense of this when you find that\u00a0Caplan is to the left of the United Nations<\/a>\u00a0on open borders and immigration.\u00a0\u00a0I leave to you to decide the reason why Caplan\u2019s friends regard Deist\u2019s piece as \u201ctruly…<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
