Dave Haslam, ex-DJ of the legendary Hacienda night club, famed for staging some of the most influential indie and house music in the 80s and early 90s, is the former fan behind the free ‘positive protest party’ event. It\u2019s set to take place the same day Morrissey plays a gig a few hundred yards away from Haslam\u2019s event, the Manchester Evening News reports.<\/p>\n
Haslam says the motivation to stage the free anti-racism party has been instigated by Morrissey\u2019s public support of the right wing, those he sees as \u201chate-slingers\u201d<\/em> who seek to \u201cdivide our community.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Read more<\/p>\n \u201cMorrissey hasn\u2019t lived in the city for 30 years \u2013 he lives abroad in tax exile \u2013 and has now joined the ranks of various right-wing politicians, tax exiles, tabloids, and media hate-slingers seeking to divide our community.<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cThere are counter arguments. There are many of them. But for now, I\u2019ve decided to combat the hate by throwing a free party, a celebratory all-dayer of beautifully diverse soul-filled, hope-filled music.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Haslam passionately believes that Manchester has benefited from immigration, and staging a music event is the perfect way to demonstrate to Morrissey that his divisive views are not reflective of his great multicultural city.<\/p>\n \u201cMusic brings people together. Strangers become brothers, sisters. All this positivity spreads into the city and beyond.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n The ex-Smiths frontman caused a stir on social media earlier this month, for criticising the \u201cshocking treatment\u201d<\/em> of former EDL leader Tommy Robinson, who was jailed for 13 months after being found in \u201ccontempt of court\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n He has been vocal in his support for the right wing party, For Britain, set up by ex-Ukip candidate and anti-muslim activist, Anne Marie Waters.<\/p>\n READ MORE:\u00a0Tommy Robinson treatment is \u2018shocking\u2019- Morrissey decries jail term as a blow to UK free speech<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cShe is absolute leadership, she doesn\u2019t read from a script, she believes in British heritage, freedom of speech, and she wants everyone in the UK to live under the same law,\u201d<\/em> he told Tremr<\/a>, the experimental discussion and debating platform.<\/p>\n The NME reports that he has also referred to Hitler as \u2018left wing\u2019 and said that London Mayor Sadiq Khan \u201ccannot talk properly\u201d<\/em> in his Manchester Central website.<\/p>\n In April, Morrissey caused yet more controversy when he claimed that \u201chalal slaughter requires certification that can only be given by supporters of Isis\u201d.<\/p>\n Haslam cheekily says of his event in July which he\u2019s named, \u2018One Nation Under A Groove\u2019, running on the same day as Morrissey\u2019s nearby gig that \u201cit might not be coincidence\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cMorrissey fans on their way to or back from his concert are more than welcome,\u201d<\/em> he adds.<\/p>\n Like this story?
