sinking beneath the waves is the way those pushing the pseudo-scandal are now busily covering their tracks.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #191919;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><i>The Guardian<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #191919;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2018\/may\/17\/mueller-trump-russia-investigation-drowned-out-news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #954f72;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><u>complains<\/u><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #191919;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0that \u201c<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #121212;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">as the inquiry has expanded and dominated the news agenda over the last year, the real issues of people\u2019s lives are in danger of being drowned out by obsessive cable television coverage of the Russia investigation\u201d \u2013 as if <em>The Guardian<\/em>\u2019s own coverage hasn\u2019t been every bit as obsessive as anything CNN has come up with.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #121212;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><i>The Washington Post<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #121212;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">, second to none when it comes to painting Putin as a real-life Lord Voldemort, now\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/post-politics\/wp\/2018\/05\/17\/mueller-trump-russia-investigation-one-year-anniversary\/?utm_term=.f2cf5bb5e94e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #954f72;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><u>says<\/u><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #121212;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0that\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #111111;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Special counsel Robert Mueller \u201cfaces a particular challenge maintaining the confidence of the citizenry\u201d as his investigation enters its second year \u2013 although it\u2019s sticking to its guns that the problem is not the inquiry itself, but \u201cthe regular attacks he faces from President Trump, who has decried the probe as a \u2018witch hunt.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #121212;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">And then there\u2019s <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #121212;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><i>The New York Times<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #121212;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">, which this week devoted a 3,600-word\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/05\/16\/us\/politics\/crossfire-hurricane-trump-russia-fbi-mueller-investigation.html?hp&amp;action=click&amp;pgtype=Homepage&amp;clickSource=story-heading&amp;module=first-column-region&amp;region=top-news&amp;WT.nav=top-news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #954f72;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><u>front-page article<\/u><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #121212;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u00a0to explain why the FBI had no choice but to launch an investigation into Trump\u2019s alleged Russian links and how, if anything, the inquiry wasn\u2019t aggressive enough.\u00a0\u00a0As the article puts it, \u201cIn<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">terviews with a dozen current and former government officials and a review of documents show that the FBI was even more circumspect in that case than has been previously known.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #333333;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong>It\u2019s Nobody\u2019s Fault<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #111111;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">The result is a late-breaking media chorus to the effect that it\u2019s not the fault of the FBI that the investigation has dragged on with so little to show for it; it\u2019s not the fault of Mueller either, and, most of all, it\u2019s not the fault of the corporate press, even though it\u2019s done little over the last two years than scream about Russia.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s not anyone\u2019s fault, evidently, but simply how the system works.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #111111;\"><span style=\"font-family: Arial, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">This is nonsense, and the gaping holes in the <i>Times<\/i>
