{"id":357250,"date":"2018-04-18T01:15:09","date_gmt":"2018-04-18T00:15:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/france-says-evidence-is-likely-disappearing-from-douma-site-ahead-of-inspectors-visit\/"},"modified":"2018-04-18T01:15:09","modified_gmt":"2018-04-18T00:15:09","slug":"france-says-evidence-is-likely-disappearing-from-douma-site-ahead-of-inspectors-visit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/france-says-evidence-is-likely-disappearing-from-douma-site-ahead-of-inspectors-visit\/","title":{"rendered":"France Says Evidence Is Likely &#8216;Disappearing&#8217; from Douma Site Ahead of Inspectors&#8217; Visit"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"\">\n<p>France\u2019s foreign ministry has said it is \u201cvery likely\u201d that proof has disappeared from the location of a suspected poison gas attack in Syria, adding it was essential that international inspectors be given full access to the site.<\/p>\n<p>Inspectors from the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) travelled to Syria last week to inspect the site, but did not gain access to Douma, which is now under government control after revel forces withdrew, until Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is very likely that proof and essential elements are disappearing from this site,\u201d the foreign ministry said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>It\u00a0follows a row between the US and UK, on one hand, and Moscow on the other, over inspectors\u2019 access to Douma.<\/p>\n<p>Theresa May\u00a0has accused Russia of blocking the OPCW from travelling to the area, while Kenneth Ward, the US envoy to the body, voiced fears the location may have been tampered with.<\/p>\n<p>Russia\u2019s foreign minister,\u00a0Sergei Lavrov, strongly denied any tampering had taken place\u00a0while other Russian officials said inspectors had not been able to visit Douma\u00a0because of Saturday\u2019s air strikes, and because they lacked the correct permits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can guarantee that Russia has not tampered with the site,\u201d Mr Lavrov told the BBC.<\/p>\n<p>France, the UK and the US hit Syria with retaliatory air strikes after blaming\u00a0Bashar al-Assad\u2018s regime for the alleged chemical attack in Douma on 7 April.<\/p>\n<p>Both Ms May and\u00a0Emmanuel Macron\u00a0have faced criticism over the&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/redice.tv\/news\/syria-chemical-attack-latest-france-says-evidence-is-likely-disappearing-from-douma-site-ahead-of-inspectors-visit\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>France\u2019s foreign ministry has said it is \u201cvery likely\u201d that proof has disappeared from the location of a suspected poison gas attack in Syria, adding it was essential that international inspectors be given full access to the site.
