MPs are faced with the decision whether or not to summon the slippery CEO.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Nix had been asked back to the inquiry for a second time to clarify inconsistencies in the evidence he provided the first time around. Now, Nix\u2019s lawyers have told the inquiry that he will not \u2013 and cannot \u2013 <em>\u201cgive evidence [on Wednesday] as a consequence of him having been served with an information notice and being the subject of a criminal investigation by the Information Commissioner\u2019s Office,\u201d<\/em> committee chair Damian Collins told his fellow members.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"900\" height=\"506\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6oTuVcrM0ww\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;His legal representation has said that he&#8217;s now not able to give evidence to the committee tomorrow, as a consequence of him having been served an information notice, and being subject to a criminal investigation by the Information Commissioner&#8217;s Office.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;We do not accept Mr Nix&#8217;s reason for not appearing in a public session before the Committee,&#8221; <\/em>Collins said.<em> &#8220;There is therefore no legal reason why Mr Nix cannot appear.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Collins has also suggested that the committee is now considering using its power to summon him \u2013 a request that Nix does not have the power to refuse.<\/p>\n<div class=\"arcticle__read-more read-more\">\n<p>Read more<\/p>\n<p>    <a class=\"read-more__link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/424040-cambridge-analytica-private-messages\/\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n                    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"read-more__cover\" src=\"https:\/\/cdni.rt.com\/files\/2018.04\/thumbnail\/5ad0b842dda4c832548b4581.jpg\" alt=\"\u00a9\u00a0Daniel Leal-Olivas\"\/><br \/>\n    <\/a>\n<\/div>\n<p><em>\u201cWe have taken advice from the parliamentary authorities on this matter,\u201d the Conservative MP said. \u201cHe has not been charged with any offence. The subjudiciary rules do not apply in these cases as there is no ongoing legal proceeding.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe will be discussing this with the information commissioner on Thursday but it is certainly the intention of the committee to take this further and consider issuing a summons for Mr Nix to appear on a named day at some point in the near future,\u201d<\/em> Collins added.<\/p>\n<p>Nix\u2019s refusal comes on the same day that the former Cambridge Analytica director of business development, Brittany Kaiser, gave evidence on UKIP and Breitbart London\u2019s reported involvement with the embattled data firm.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIn reviewing the events around the Brexit campaign, I was recently reminded of the fact that the Breitbart media platform had a UK channel, \u2018Breitbart London\u2019, in which UKIP-linked figures played key roles,\u201d <\/em>Kaiser said in her written evidence.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOne of Cambridge Analytica\u2019s competitive advantages in the US marketplace in 2016, and a key part of our pitch to Republican clients, was that we had secured exclusive rights to resell Breitbart engagement data.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI am not aware of any such agreement or data sharing in relation to Breitbart London, but it would be interesting to know if our US data tracking tags were in place on that UK channel, and whether any data about what stories British people were reading on Breitbart or other websites ever made their way to Leave campaigns.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Breitbart has yet to comment on the allegations. Kaiser also said that Cambridge Analytica had carried out \u00a341,500 (US$60,000) worth of work for the Leave.EU campaign. That money was invoiced to UKIP, but never paid for.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Like this story?
