{"id":356899,"date":"2018-04-15T16:09:04","date_gmt":"2018-04-15T15:09:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/spanish-government-promotes-militarism-in-schools\/"},"modified":"2018-04-15T16:09:04","modified_gmt":"2018-04-15T15:09:04","slug":"spanish-government-promotes-militarism-in-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/spanish-government-promotes-militarism-in-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"Spanish government promotes militarism in schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3 class=\"nomargin\">\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h2>Spanish government promotes militarism in schools<\/h2>\n<h5>\n<p>    By<br \/>\n    Alejandro L\u00f3pez<br \/>\n    <br \/>14 April 2018<\/p>\n<\/h5>\n<p>Spain\u2019s Popular Party (PP) government has designed a new syllabus for 6-to-12-year-old schoolchildren, \u201cSocial Values and Ethical Values,\u201d which promotes militarism and Spanish nationalism.\u00a0 The syllabus has been designed by the Ministry of Education National Centre for Innovation and Educational Research (CNIIE) and the Ministry of Defence Security and Defense Coordination and Studies Division.<\/p>\n<p>The reactionary content is evident in the leaked 245-page draft syllabus, which is composed of 10 teaching units, including the need to respect the army, the police, the flag, the anthem and the King and to uphold the unity of Spain.<\/p>\n<p>The Socialist Party (PSOE) and the pseudo-left Podemos organisation are fully behind the PP\u2019s approach, disagreeing only on the way it is presented.<\/p>\n<p>In a debate in the Spanish Senate this week, PSOE senator Bego\u00f1a Nasarre declared, \u201cThe youngest have the right to know what their armed forces are, a fundamental part of the security and protection of the country and the exercise of our rights and freedoms.\u201d She criticized the PP because it had removed the \u201cEducation for Citizenship\u201d topic from the school curriculum, which had been formulated \u201cwith participation from all areas and sectors\u2026 and maximum consensus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Europa Press, Podemos Senator Sara Vil\u00e0 \u201chas not questioned whether a defense culture should exist, but has disagreed about what should be taught in it and why it should exist.
