Holding what appears to be a UK passport, Westwood said she wanted to make a statement on freedom of speech.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/news\/422672-assange-tweet-internet-blackout\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">READ MORE:\u00a0Ecuador cut Assange\u2019s internet over Catalonia crackdown tweet, source close to WikiLeaks tells RT<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cJulian Assange is one of the greatest heroes of the world, we are very concerned now that he can\u2019t have visitors,\u201d<\/em> she said. <em>\u201cIt\u2019s really important that he\u2019s got access to the world by all the exposures he has managed to do.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>According to Westwood, Assange was <em>\u201ca war hero, he exposed American war crimes.\u201d<\/em> The founder of WikiLeaks \u201c<em>is my friend and he is brilliant,\u201d<\/em> she said.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, the Ecuadorian embassy in London, where Assange is holed up, blocked internet access for the whistleblower. Assange\u2019s remarks on Catalan politics, in which he equated Spanish extradition requests to fascist policies, raised the ire of Ecuador.<\/p>\n<p>Sources close to WikiLeaks told RT that the Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry demanded that Assange delete the tweet, which he refused to do. He has consequently been stripped of internet access and no longer allowed to meet visitors in the embassy.<\/p>\n<p>This week, Assange lambasted Berlin for its decision to arrest fugitive Catalan independence movement leader Carles Puigdemont, who is wanted by the Spanish government on charges of rebellion and sedition.<\/p>\n<p>Assange compared the decision to the one made by Nazi Germany when it arrested Catalan leader Lluis Companys and handed him over to the regime of Spanish dictator Francisco Franco.<\/p>\n<p>The embassy reportedly installed electronic jammers to block all communications on its premises hours after an individual representing Assange\u2019s interests was informed of <em>\u201cstrong discomfort and concern that his declarations have caused in Ecuador&#8217;s government,\u201d<\/em> the source told RT.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/422682-westwood-assange-hero-brilliant\/?utm_source=rss&#038;utm_medium=rss&#038;utm_campaign=RSS\">RT<\/a>.
