{"id":354347,"date":"2018-03-29T07:08:02","date_gmt":"2018-03-29T06:08:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/swedish-government-pushes-to-ban-anonymity-on-social-media\/"},"modified":"2018-03-29T07:08:02","modified_gmt":"2018-03-29T06:08:02","slug":"swedish-government-pushes-to-ban-anonymity-on-social-media","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/swedish-government-pushes-to-ban-anonymity-on-social-media\/","title":{"rendered":"Swedish Government Pushes to Ban Anonymity on Social Media"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"\">\n<p>The Swedish government is planning to put more pressure on tech giants Google, Facebook, and Twitter to end anonymity for \u2018online trolls\u2019 and those accused of posting hate speech.<\/p>\n<p>Minister for Housing and Digitisation Peter Eriksson said that he and Justice Minister Morgan Johansson were working together to put even more pressure on the social media companies to deal with so-called hate speech online, <em>Expressen<\/em> reports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo far, it has been too easy to be able to say anything on the internet,\u201d Eriksson said and added that individuals should be held responsible for what they say.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe troll accounts that exist today \u2013 as well as in Sweden \u2013 must end. You have to point out to the big platforms and tell them you have a responsibility, you have to clean up and get rid of this,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Both ministers are set to meet with representatives from Google, Facebook, and other internet companies on April 13th and Eriksson confirmed that Swedish media would also be present at the meeting. \u201cI think we need a lot of new rules, some of which can be regarding laws,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Sweden has been one of the countries in Europe at the forefront of prosecuting citizens for hate speech along with Germany and the UK.
