{"id":353413,"date":"2018-03-23T00:04:56","date_gmt":"2018-03-22T23:04:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/prison-planet-com-youtubes-censorship-not-much-different-than-turkeys\/"},"modified":"2018-03-23T00:04:56","modified_gmt":"2018-03-22T23:04:56","slug":"prison-planet-com-youtubes-censorship-not-much-different-than-turkeys","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/prison-planet-com-youtubes-censorship-not-much-different-than-turkeys\/","title":{"rendered":"Prison Planet.com \u00bb Youtube\u2019s Censorship Not Much Different Than Turkey\u2019s"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>      <!-- START CONTENT --><\/p>\n<p>Youtube\u2019s purge of anti-establishment voices similar to censorship inside Muslim nation<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kit Daniels<\/strong><br \/>Prison Planet.com<br \/>March 22, 2018<\/p>\n<p><strong>Turkey\u2019s latest censorship bid is actually not much different than what YouTube, Twitter and Facebook are already doing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Turkey is now regulating Internet broadcasts, according to Bloomberg, and video streaming services will have to apply for permits to broadcast their content in the country.<\/p>\n<p>But when you compare the details of Turkey\u2019s censorship program, you\u2019ll start to realize that a lot of it is similar to the \u201ccommunity standards\u201d used by Silicon Valley to censor conservative and libertarian voices.<\/p>\n<p>Just take a look at the following from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2018-03-22\/turkey-gives-its-aggressive-tv-censor-control-over-the-web\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bloomberg piece<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>The regulation will require online video streaming companies and pay-TV services to apply for a license from the watchdog, known by its Turkish initials RTUK. Courts can block access for Turkish users if the necessary permits aren\u2019t secured.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>So, to obtain a license in Turkey, you have to adhere to a specific set of standards enacted by the watchdog.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, to stay on Youtube, Facebook and Twitter (aka keeping a \u201clicense\u201d), you also have to abide to a specific set of standards enacted by the sites\u2019 watchdogs, many of whom adhere to anti-free speech \u201csocial justice warrior\u201d ideologies and are thus similar to Turkish censors.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/skDJdeKjrDI\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><em>RTUK has become notorious for aggressively handing out penalties or banning broadcasts that it judges to be immoral, inconsistent with Turkish family values, or that stray from the government line on politics.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>That sounds just like censorship on YouTube, especially with the site\u2019s recent purge of Second Amendment videos.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAccording to YouTube\u2019s updated restrictions, the site no longer allows content that \u2018Intends to sell firearms or certain firearms accessories through direct sales\u2026or links to sites that sell these items,\u2019\u201d according to&#8230;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.prisonplanet.com\/youtubes-censorship-not-much-different-than-turkeys.html\">Read more<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Youtube\u2019s purge of anti-establishment voices similar to censorship inside Muslim nation Kit DanielsPrison Planet.comMarch 22, 2018 Turkey\u2019s latest censorship bid is actually not much different than what YouTube, Twitter and Facebook are already doing.
