Over 10,000 Yemeni civilians have died in the conflict since 2015.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>During a hearing of the Senate Armed Services Committee on Tuesday, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Massachusetts) asked Votel, head of the US Central Command, whether Centcom tracks the purpose of the Saudi missions it refuels in Yemen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>We do not<\/em>,\u201d Votel said.<\/p>\n<p>Warren drew attention to the recent spate of civilian casualties in Yemen as a result of Saudi airstrikes against the region. She asked whether Centcom is able to ascertain whether US fuel or munitions were used as part of Saudi strikes that killed civilians.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>I don\u2019t believe we are<\/em>,\u201d Votel said.<\/p>\n<div class=\"rtcode\"><center><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-cards=\"hidden\" data-lang=\"en-gb\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Is this man insane?<br \/>US <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CENTCOM?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@CENTCOM<\/a> chief Gen Votel: &#8220;The U.S. should continue supplying fuel, intelligence &amp; munitions to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Saudi?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Saudi<\/a> Arabia for the war in <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Yemen?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#Yemen<\/a> so we can influence Riyadh toward limiting and investigating Yemeni civilian casualties.&#8221;<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/qTHtvz9XVk\">https:\/\/t.co\/qTHtvz9XVk<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 \u0647\u064a\u0643\u0644 \u0628\u0627\u0641\u0646\u0639 (@BaFana3) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BaFana3\/status\/973625672500424706?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">13 March 2018<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><\/center><\/div>\n<p>Since 2015, the US has backed Saudi forces with intelligence, ammunition and refueling and has been a major supplier of arms to Saudi Arabia and its allies in the conflict.<\/p>\n<p>As of October 2017, the US had provided over 80 million pounds of fuel and refueled over 10,400 vessels in the Yemen region, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.military.com\/daily-news\/2017\/10\/12\/lawmakers-want-force-us-military-out-yemen-war.html\">Military.com.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In a subsequent question, Votel told Senator Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii): \u201c<em>We\u2019re not parties to this conflict [in Yemen].<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At least 10,000 Yemeni civilians have died and the country is experiencing a devastating famine and a cholera epidemic, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oxfam.org.uk\/what-we-do\/emergency-response\/yemen-crisis\">according <\/a>to Oxfam.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"media__youtube-frame\" width=\"100%\" height=\"300px\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7lreEMTQfTA\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The UN says there are 22 million people in need of humanitarian assistance.<\/p>\n<p>Yemen\u2019s conflict pits the Zaidi Shiite rebel group, known as the Houthis, against a coalition of Sunni forces led by Saudi Arabia and forces loyal to former Saudi-backed President Abdu Rabbu Mansour Hadi, who was ousted in 2014 by the Houthis.<\/p>\n<p>There has been growing congressional opposition to the US\u2019 role in the Yemen civil war.<\/p>\n<p>Two weeks ago Senators Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont), Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Chris Murphy (D-Connecticut) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/420234-senators-yemen-saudi-resolution\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">introduced <\/a>a bipartisan joint resolution that calls for the removal of American armed forces in Yemen.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Think your friends would be interested?
