The suppression of a resolution unanimously endorsed by the NDP youth convention, many outside groups and over\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/xfer.ndp.ca\/2018\/ottawa2018\/NDP-Resolutions_4-en.pdf?r=1\">25 riding<\/a> associations was the latest in a long line of leadership anti-Palestinian actions.<\/p>\n<p>However, the first leader of Canada\u2019s original social democratic party actually took a sensible humanist position, criticizing the colonialist\/nationalist movement\u2019s impact on the indigenous population. In 1938 CCF (the NDP\u2019s predecessor) leader J. S. Woodsworth said, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.ca\/books?id=ZDdEDAAAQBAJ&amp;pg=PT26&amp;lpg=PT26&amp;dq=it+was+easy+for+Canadians,+Americans+and+the+British+to+agree+to+a+Jewish+colony,+as+long+as+it+was+somewhere+else.+Why+%E2%80%98pick+on+the+Arabs%E2%80%99+other+than+for+%E2%80%98strategic%E2%80%99+and+%E2%80%98imperialistic%E2%80%99+consideration&amp;source=bl&amp;ots=HnNQyWdfVQ&amp;sig=e6nJflitvysha1XDHodGed_PxOk&amp;hl=en&amp;sa=X&amp;ved=0ahUKEwi3gIypzcrZAhXHs1kKHTp4CfAQ6AEIKzAA#v=onepage&amp;q=it%20was%20easy%20for%20Canadians%2C%20Americans%20and%20the%20British%20to%20agree%20to%20a%20Jewish%20colony%2C%20as%20long%20as%20it%20was%20somewhere%20else.%20Why%20%E2%80%98pick%20on%20the%20Arabs%E2%80%99%20other%20than%20for%20%E2%80%9\">it was easy<\/a> for Canadians, Americans and the British to agree to a Jewish colony, as long as it was somewhere else. Why \u2018pick on the Arabs\u2019 other than for \u2018strategic\u2019 and \u2018imperialistic\u2019 consideration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After Woodsworth\u2019s 1940 death the party\u2019s stance shifted and by the end of World War II the CCF officially supported Zionism.
