That is, an automated and AI cop car that would sneak\u00a0<em>itself<\/em>\u00a0behind the bushes and use license plate scanners, facial recognition and other such revenue-raising technologies to automatically issue paying\u2019 paper.<\/p>\n<p>All the time. Everywhere.<\/p>\n<p>For\u00a0<em>everything<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">No more need to pay cops to do it\u00a0<em>some<\/em>\u00a0of the time.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, no more part-time, scattershot enforcement of traffic laws. It would become much harder to flout \u2013 or evade \u2013\u00a0<em>any<\/em>\u00a0traffic law. Everything from \u201cspeeding\u201d to driving around without all your papers in order. Auto Cop would know \u2013 immediately.<\/p>\n<p>And there\u2019s no bargaining with\u00a0<em>him<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">But why should anyone object to (as Ford itself puts it) more \u201cefficient\u201d enforcement of the law? This assumes, of course, that the laws being enforced are reasonable, defensible, etc.<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re not, of course. And everyone knows it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Which is precisely why they\u00a0<em>aren\u2019t<\/em>\u00a0enforced \u201cefficiently.\u201d It would trigger an uprising.<\/p>\n<p>The whole point of the current system is the\u00a0<em>selective enforcement<\/em>\u00a0of idiotic laws. In order to\u00a0<em>maintain<\/em>\u00a0idiotic laws.<\/p>\n<p>Consider speed limits as an example. Unlike reasonable laws \u2013 those regarding theft and murder, for instance \u2013 speed limits\u00a0are flouted by almost everyone who drives, almost every time they drive. Whether by a lot or a little is irrelevant. The point<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u2013 and living\/breathing cops (and judges, even) admit it \u2013 is that most speed limits are ignored and aren\u2019t rigidly enforced because everyone agrees they\u00a0<em>are<\/em>\u00a0ridiculous.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">If they were rigidly enforced, it would become apparent very quickly just\u00a0<em>how<\/em>\u00a0ridiculous they are. How\u00a0<em>unsustainable<\/em>\u00a0they are.
