At the time, few Argentines would have imagined what was in store for their country with the advent of the \u201cK\u201d \u2014 for Kirchner \u2014 Regime.<\/p>\n<p>Especially after his hand-picked successor Cristina Kirchner<br \/>\nbecame president in 2007, later re-elected in 2011. \u00a0A year<br \/>\nand a half into Cristina\u2019s second term, Argentina is once again<br \/>\nroller-coasting increasingly out-of-control into what may yet<br \/>\nbecome another national catastrophe, marked by spiralling<br \/>\ninflation, a panic-driven foreign exchange clamp-down, economic<br \/>\nslump, increasing street violence, ferocious taxation of workers\u2019<br \/>\nfalling salaries and \u2014 worst of all \u2014 rampant, unprecedented<br \/>\ncorruption at the highest levels of government.<\/p>\n<h2>It\u2019s the economy, stupid&#8230;!<\/h2>\n<p>After her re-election, Mrs Kirchner thought she could easily<br \/>\nstay in power by continuing to subsidize the poor, divide the<br \/>\nopposition and pick fights with traditional sectors like the<br \/>\nCatholic Church, the armed and security forces, farmers, the<br \/>\nopposition media, and periodically whip-up \u201cnationalist fervour\u201d<br \/>\nwith suitably staged measures.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Argentina's First Lady, Senator and presidential candidate for the ruling party Frente para la Victoria Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner greets supporters 22 October 2007 in Bolivar during a campaign rally in view of the next 28 October election. (AFP Photo)\" src=\"http:\/\/rt.com\/files\/opinionpost\/1f\/24\/e0\/00\/000_mvd458745.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Demanding the UK return the Falkland\/Malvinas Islands to<br \/>\nArgentina, for example, even though her government has all but<br \/>\ndisarmed the country\u2019s armed forces. \u00a0Or permanently harping<br \/>\nover the \u201cdesaparecidos\u201d \u2014 the militants who disappeared under the<br \/>\nmilitary regime of the \u201870\u2019s &#8211; but never investigating Argentina\u2019s<br \/>\nnow <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.indexmundi.com\/g\/g.aspx?c=ar&amp;v=94\">almost $137 billion foreign debt<\/a> whose roots<br \/>\ndate back to that military juntas\u2019 economic policies. \u00a0Or<br \/>\nnationalizing Spanish oil company Repsol\u2019s majority shareholding in<br \/>\nArgentina\u2019s YPF, which N\u00c3\u00a9stor and Cristina Kirchner helped<br \/>\nprivatize 21 years ago. \u00a0Or attacking the opposition media by<br \/>\npromoting \u201cdemocratization of the press\u201d, with government taking<br \/>\nover key media conglomerates putting them in the hands of<br \/>\npro-Kirchner frontmen and targeting \u201cClarin\u201d, the country\u2019s largest<br \/>\ngroup. \u00a0More recently, by \u201cdemocratizing\u201d the Judiciary: a<br \/>\neuphemism for bringing it under the full control of the executive<br \/>\nbranch.<\/p>\n<p>Most of this has been high profile government propaganda often<br \/>\nserving as smoke screens to hide deeper economic trouble brewing in<br \/>\nthe dark, involving three key factors that are now all but out of<br \/>\ncontrol: inflation, the rapidly depreciating Argentine Peso and<br \/>\ngross corruption at the highest levels of government that has all<br \/>\nbut halted local and foreign investment and trust. \u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Inflation &amp; Devaluation<\/h2>\n<p>First and foremost, then, inflation, which for two years has<br \/>\nbeen eroding workers\u2019 salaries at a time when government deficit<br \/>\nspending translates as ferocious, record level tax pressure on all<br \/>\nworkers. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Private consultancies put annual inflation at 30 to 35 per cent,<br \/>\nbut the official government figure put out by the INDEC government<br \/>\nstatistics office under the grip of powerful commerce secretary and<br \/>\nKirchner insider Guillermo Moreno, says it is \u201cjust 10.8%\u201d.<br \/>\n\u00a0This is so laughable that even INDEC\u2019s employees publicly<br \/>\ndenounce such blatantly falsified data. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When a Greek journalist recently asked Economy Minister Hern\u00c3\u00a1n<br \/>\nLorenzino a simple question &#8211; <i>\u201cWhat is Argentina\u2019s<br \/>\ninflation?\u201d<\/i> &#8211; a visibly terrified Lorenzino looked at the<br \/>\ncamera, asked for the interview to stop and was then heard twice<br \/>\npleading, <i>\u201cI want to leave\u2026! I want to leave!!. \u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<p>He knows only too well that telling the truth about inflation<br \/>\nwill get him into huge trouble with Mrs Kirchner, Mr Moreno and the<br \/>\nmilitant Marxist organization \u201cLa Campora\u201d led by presidential son<br \/>\nMaximo, which today runs much the economy as well as key state<br \/>\ncompanies such as YPF, flag carrier Aerol\u00c3\u00adneas Argentinas which<br \/>\nlosses around 3 million dollars a day, the Central Bank, and the<br \/>\nANSES Public Pensions Fund.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, the government went into panic-mode imposing an all<br \/>\nbut full exchange clamp-down, especially in US Dollar trading, for<br \/>\ndecades a key financial indicator. \u00a0During its first eight<br \/>\nyears in power, the Kirchner government artificially kept it stable<br \/>\nat around 3 pesos per dollar. \u00a0However huge government<br \/>\ndeficits and payment of Argentina\u2019s foreign debt forced the<br \/>\ngovernment to do everything necessary to get its hands on every<br \/>\ndollar in town. \u00a0Result: no dollars for anybody; whether for<br \/>\ntravelling abroad, or imports, or the real estate market which<br \/>\ntraditionally uses the dollar to offset endemically high local<br \/>\ninflation, or for foreign companies to pay dividends abroad.<\/p>\n<p>The official rate has now peaked to over 5.35 pesos whilst the<br \/>\nblack market rate \u2014 which did not even exist until around a year<br \/>\nago \u2014 pierced the 10 peso mark a few weeks ago.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>Government Corruption<\/h2>\n<p>But what has become a prime source of national concern is<br \/>\n<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/en.mercopress.com\/2013\/05\/15\/allegations-of-a-network-of-corruption-money-involves-former-president-kirchner\">massive government corruption<\/a> in which money<br \/>\nstolen by Kirchnerites runs anywhere from one to many billions of<br \/>\nDollars, or rather Euros, since we have now discovered Mr<br \/>\nKirchner\u00b4s fetishist obsession with 500 Euro bank notes. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Kirchner\u2019s own former deputy-governor of Santa Cruz Province,<br \/>\nEduardo Arnold, went public describing how he relished touching<br \/>\nlarge bundles of cash, filling his pockets, safes and vaults with<br \/>\nit. \u00a0A private video from several years back just surfaced<br \/>\nshowing Mr K joking with a group of cronies whilst caressing a<br \/>\nlarge safe exclaiming \u201cthis is ecstasy to me!\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, the \u201cK Corruption List\u201d is very long:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In 1993 as governor of Santa Cruz Province he expatriated 654<br \/>\nmillion dollars in public funds into tax havens of which only small<br \/>\namounts trickled back; when a local lawsuit was filed on this case<br \/>\nhe maneuvered the case and ended up being acquitted by judge<br \/>\nSantiago Lozada who is his nephew-in-law;\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Widespread public works bribery in the Infrastructure Ministry<br \/>\nrun by crony Julio De Vido; when former economy minister and<br \/>\nwhistle-blower Roberto Lavagna publicly disclosed this in 2005, Mr.<br \/>\nK promptly fired him;<\/li>\n<li>Embezzlement of government railway subsidies under crony<br \/>\ntransport ministers Ricardo Jaime and Juan Pablo Schiavi; both are<br \/>\nunder investigation over a railway accident that killed 51<br \/>\npassengers in February 2012 in Buenos Aires\u2019 derelict, run-down and<br \/>\nunmaintained passenger trains;<\/li>\n<li>Cristina Kirchner\u2019s 2007 presidential campaign funding where a<br \/>\nVenezuelan crony was caught trying to bring into the country a<br \/>\nsuitcase stashed with 800.000 dollars cash \u201cfor Cristina\u2019s<br \/>\ncampaign\u201d, as well as campaign contributions from illegal drug<br \/>\nfront-companies;<\/li>\n<li>Public funding for the \u201cMadres Plaza de Mayo\u201d NGO &#8211; a front for<br \/>\n70\u2019s terrorists\u2019 rights \u2014 embezzled by its head Sergio Schoklender<br \/>\n(who spent decades in jail for murdering his parents in 1981),<br \/>\nwhose treasurer is Felisa Miceli, a former K economy minister<br \/>\nforced to resign in 2005 after bundles of hard cash were found in<br \/>\nher ministry toilette. \u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The list goes on and on\u2026<\/p>\n<p>In all these cases friendly \u201cK\u201d judges are systematically<br \/>\nappointed to hear in these cases which are then suitably diverted,<br \/>\nmismanaged, delayed, hushed up and closed.<\/p>\n<h2>Mass sacndal<\/h2>\n<p>In recent weeks, Jorge Lanata, a well-known left-wing<br \/>\ninvestigation journalist acting as spokesman for the \u201cClarin\u201d<br \/>\nmultimedia group, began showing very concrete and convincing<br \/>\nevidence on his prime-time Sunday evening TV program.<br \/>\n\u00a0K-frontmen were shown collecting so much cash for their<br \/>\nbosses that they would not even bother to count it but rather<br \/>\nweighed huge bags containing 500 Euro notes which were then whisked<br \/>\noff on private jets to tax havens in Panama and Belize, and to the<br \/>\nK\u2019s home province of Santa Cruz.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner takes over the Argentine presidency from her husband Nestor Kirchner, during the swear-in ceremony at the Congress building in Buenos Aires, on December 10th, 2007. (AFP Photo \/ Juan Mabromata)\" src=\"http:\/\/rt.com\/files\/opinionpost\/1f\/24\/e0\/00\/000_dv262468_copy.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Strong rumours have it that the K\u2019s had a bank-size vault built<br \/>\ninto their private residence to store billions. \u00a0Some even<br \/>\nbelieve that N\u00c3\u00a9stor Kirchner\u2019s mausoleum (he died in rather unclear<br \/>\nand disturbing circumstances in October 2010) might be \u201cfull of<br \/>\nmoney and empty of a corpse\u201d. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The truth is that all close \u201cK\u201d cronies have become filthy rich<br \/>\nover the past decade:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Again, the list goes on and on and on\u2026<\/p>\n<h2>Argentina: a Money-laundering Haven<\/h2>\n<p>Inflation + Devaluation + Corruption = an explosive formula<br \/>\nindeed&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>The K Economic Team\u2019s wondrous solution to all this? \u00a010<br \/>\ndays ago Cristina Kirchner declared a full \u201cdon\u2019t ask \/ don\u2019t tell\u201d<br \/>\nillegal funds jubilee to try to get Argentines with foreign<br \/>\ndeposits (estimated at 180 to 220 billion) to repatriate them by<br \/>\npaying no taxes, without having to justify where the money came<br \/>\nfrom. Music to local and international money-launderers!!!<br \/>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Especially with all the local front-men ready to lease their<br \/>\nnames and shell companies to drug cartels and arms dealer willing<br \/>\nto pay a nice \u201ccommission\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>All of this at a time when Argentina\u2019s hard working middle class<br \/>\nis under ferocious pressure from AFIP \u2014 the government tax office \u2014<br \/>\nthat milks workers at record high tax collection rates. \u00a0The<br \/>\nmessage is clear:\u00a0<\/p>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<span>If you\u2019re an honest worker,<br \/>\nyou\u2019re in real trouble;\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li>\n<span>If you\u2019re a money-launder,<br \/>\nthe government easily gets you off the hook. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>In practical terms, Argentina has now become an international<br \/>\ntax haven, something which some rather nasty people in Mexico,<br \/>\nColombia and elsewhere must be eagerly watching.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cristina Kirchner herself is also in dire straits trying to<br \/>\nexplain how she managed to grow her officially declared assets<br \/>\ntenfold to 70.000.000 pesos by 2011, then equivalent to around 20<br \/>\nmillion dollars.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/rt.com\/files\/opinionpost\/1f\/24\/e0\/00\/000_mvd6517179.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When she visited Harvard University last year, a young student<br \/>\nraised her hand to ask exactly that question, to which a visibly<br \/>\nuneasy Mrs K replied that she was \u201ca very successful lawyer\u201d.<br \/>\n\u00a0Pity that there isn\u2019t single court in Argentina\u2019s judicial<br \/>\nsystem having record of any legal lawsuit where Cristina Lawyer may<br \/>\nhave been awarded fees remotely anywhere near those amounts.<\/p>\n<p>The scandal grows by the hour. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Again, K\u2019s former deputy-governor Eduardo Arnold <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.perfil.com\/politica\/Quienes-aparecen-en-el-video-de-la-pasion-irrefrenable-de-Nestor-Kirchner-20130516-0023.html\">went public<\/a> saying he too believed there were<br \/>\nmoney-filled vaults in the K home and mausoleum hiding tons of<br \/>\nEuros. N\u00c3\u00a9stor K\u2019s former private secretary (kicked out by Mrs K)<br \/>\npublicly declared she had heard and seen key K \u201chelpers and<br \/>\nassistants\u201d carrying and talking about <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lanacion.com.ar\/1579657-el-escandalo-de-corrupcion-llego-a-la-cnn\">bags stuffed with kilos of Euros<\/a>. K\u00b4s architect<br \/>\nwho built his residence actually showed the house plans and exact<br \/>\nlocation of the vault on national TV. \u00a0Knowing of K\u2019s<br \/>\npreference for 500 Euro bank notes, that vault could have housed up<br \/>\nto 3 billion Euros\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, K shock-troop urban groups like \u201cLa Campora\u201d and<br \/>\n\u201cVatatyon Militante\u201d are manned by throngs of lumpen thugs thrown<br \/>\nonto the streets at a moment\u2019s notice to barricade, picket and<br \/>\nharass their way across the country, shutting down highways, taking<br \/>\nover public parks and squares. and terrorizing the population at<br \/>\nlarge \u2014 the middle class in particular. \u00a0Rumours abound of<br \/>\ntheir weapons arsenals.
