Max Hill QC wants the term \u201cDaesh-inspired terrorism\u201d used instead.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Hill, the Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation, said that the word \u2018terrorism\u2019 should not be attached <em>\u201cto any of the world religions.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>His comments mean that Prime Minister Theresa May and Home Secretary Amber Rudd, who have both spoken about the threat posed by <em>\u201cIslamist terrorists,\u201d would need to rethink their language. Head of MI5 Andrew Parker has also used the term, previously warning of an \u201cintense UK threat from Islamist extremists.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"arcticle__read-more read-more\">\n<p>Read more<\/p>\n<p>    <a class=\"read-more__link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/407278-naive-jihadists-reintegrated-isis\/\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n                    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"read-more__cover\" src=\"https:\/\/cdni.rt.com\/files\/2017.10\/thumbnail\/59e9c448fc7e93297f8b4574.jpg\" alt=\"\u00a9 Global Look Press\"\/><br \/>\n    <\/a>\n<\/div>\n<p>Labour MP Karen Buck said that Hill\u2019s recent report on the operation of terrorism legislation had acknowledged that <em>\u201cDaesh and Daesh-inspired terrorism is the greatest threat,\u201d<\/em> also using the Arabic pejorative term for Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS).<\/p>\n<p>In Parliament\u2019s Joint Committee on Human Rights, Buck asked the Independent Reviewer of Terrorism Legislation whether, in light of dangers from far-right terrorism, <em>\u201cthere is any downside that the current debate does tend to focus largely on Islamic terrorism.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Hill told the MP that the legal definition of terrorism <em>\u201cmentions religion but mentions no particular religion nor sect within a religion.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cYou are accurate in using the phrase \u2018Daesh-inspired terrorism\u2019 where many other commentators use the words \u2018Islamist terrorism\u2019,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;It is fundamentally wrong to attach the word terrorism to any of the world religions. Put that another way round: those who adhere to any of the great religions or none can be terrorists within the definition.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Hill has previously prosecuted in cases involving members of the IRA, Al-Qaeda, IS, and the July 2005 bomb plot.<\/p>\n<p>The recommendation has already attracted criticism online, with Hill being labelled a\u00a0too politically correct.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"rtcode\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-conversation=\"none\" data-lang=\"en\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Max Hill &#8211; so called terror watchdog &#8211; says dont refer to Islamist Terrorism.
