He will now ask the audit office and parliamentary committees to get answers.<\/p>\n<div class=\"arcticle__read-more read-more\">\n<p>Read more<\/p>\n<p>    <a class=\"read-more__link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/415467-bbc-gender-pay-gap\/\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n                    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"read-more__cover\" src=\"https:\/\/cdni.rt.com\/files\/2018.01\/thumbnail\/5a5602d3fc7e934e298b4567.jpg\" alt=\"\u00a9 XYZ PICTURES\/ Global Look Press\"\/><br \/>\n    <\/a>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong\/>The potential audit comes in response to allegations earlier this month by the BBC\u2019s former China editor, Carrie Gracie, who quit in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/415281-equal-pay-bbc-gracie\/\">very public open letter designed to expose the BBC\u2019s equal pay failings.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong\/><em>\u201cThe BBC often settles cases out of court and demands non-disclosure agreements, a habit unworthy of an organisation committed to truth, and one which does nothing to resolve the systemic problem,\u201d<\/em> she said in her letter.<\/p>\n<p><strong\/>Lammy told the Sunday Times that although many organizations used out of court settlements,<em> \u201cquestions have to be asked about how these agreements can be used to cover up incidents involving alleged or potential sexual harassment, bullying or discrimination.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong\/>The Labour MP said such agreements are used by the wealthy and institutions to silence <em>\u201cthe voices of the victim in order to protect the reputations and positions of the powerful.\u201d<\/em> He also said such agreements could mean institutions avoid dealing with <em>\u201csystemic\u201d<\/em> problems.<\/p>\n<p><strong\/>The BBC told the Times that it had not used a<em> \u201csettlement agreement for over two years\u201d<\/em> to resolve a pay claim, and since the summer a number of pay claims involving women had been resolved.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Like this story?
