Nevertheless, US automotive giant Ford has revealed its vision for the future of policing in a patent application, not for a cyborg, but an AI-driven cop car.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The proposed AI police car is a speed trap, surveillance vehicle and traffic cop all rolled into one. According to the pending <a href=\"http:\/\/pdfaiw.uspto.gov\/.aiw?PageNum=0&amp;docid=20180018869&amp;IDKey=94FA7E6EDD0F&amp;HomeUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fappft.uspto.gov%2Fnetacgi%2Fnph-Parser%3FSect1%3DPTO2%2526Sect2%3DHITOFF%2526p%3D1%2526u%3D%25252Fnetahtml%25252FPTO%25252Fsearch-bool.html%2526r%3D1%2526f%3DG%2526l%3D50%2526co1%3DAND%2526d%3DPG01%2526s1%3D%252522autonomous%252Bpolice%252522%2526OS%3D%252522autonomous%252Bpolice%252522%2526RS%3D%252522autonomous%252Bpolice%252522\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">patent<\/a> published earlier this month, the vehicle could be used for routine tasks, like ticketing or penalizing bad drivers.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cAn autonomous police vehicle may enforce traffic laws by identifying violators, pulling over the offending vehicle, capturing an image of license plate of the offending vehicle\u2026 determining whether to issue a warning or a ticket,\u201d<\/em> the patent reads.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/viral\/394947-robocop-to-combat-crime-dubai\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">READ MORE:\u00a0\u2018It will combat crime\u2019: Robocop cars join Dubai\u2019s futuristic police force (VIDEO)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fitted with surveillance cameras, wireless communication capabilities and sensors, the car could be on the beat with or without a human officer. The vehicle could be even be linked to other police vehicles, the better to call for back-up in the event of an emergency. <em>\u201cAutonomous police vehicle may be trained or otherwise programmed using machine learning tools \u2013 deep neural networks \u2013 to find good hiding spots to catch violators of traffic laws,\u201d<\/em> the application reads.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, Ford CEO Jim Hackett told the Consumer Technology Association <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ces.tech\/Conference\/Keynotes\/Ford-Keynote\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">conference<\/a> in Las Vegas that disruptive technologies like AI might change the face of motoring and civic life. Hackett suggested that through deep-learning AI and the internet of things, cars will be able to engage with road signs and markings. And changing one piece of the system necessarily changes the whole. That demonstrates the benefits of introducing these smart vehicles in a smart world for civic life.
