Presidential hopeful Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel says a secular government will never work in Iran.\n<\/p>\n
\u00c5\u201cIn Iran, a non-religious government will never be successful because such a government will not be able to win over the people\u00e2\u201e\u00a2s trust or their support,\u201d Haddad-Adel told a group of students in Tehran on Sunday.\n<\/p>\n
\u00c5\u201cWhat I intend to say is that a secular government in which religion and state are separated would never work for a country like Iran,\u201d he added.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Haddad-Adel also warned that any rift between the government and the nation would hinder progress in the country.<\/p>\n
\u00c5\u201cFor any nation and any country to succeed, the nation should not be separate from its government,\u201d he said.\n<\/p>\n
Haddad-Adel, a former speaker of parliament, noted that the Iranian nation would tolerate economic woes if it feels that its beliefs are respected.\n<\/p>\n
\u00c5\u201cThe main condition required for the nation to support the government is that the nation should feel that the government respects its values and what it considers sacred,\u201d he stated.\n<\/p>\n
