{"id":343903,"date":"2018-01-15T10:52:26","date_gmt":"2018-01-15T09:52:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/prison-planet-com-columbia-offers-course-on-persistent-racism-of-trumpism\/"},"modified":"2018-01-15T10:52:26","modified_gmt":"2018-01-15T09:52:26","slug":"prison-planet-com-columbia-offers-course-on-persistent-racism-of-trumpism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/prison-planet-com-columbia-offers-course-on-persistent-racism-of-trumpism\/","title":{"rendered":"Prison Planet.com \u00bb Columbia offers course on \u2018persistent racism\u2019 of \u2018Trumpism\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>      <!-- START CONTENT --><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.campusreform.org\/?ID=10368\"><strong>Campus Reform<\/strong><\/a><br \/>January 12, 2018<\/p>\n<p><strong>An upcoming course at the Teachers College, Columbia University is slated to explore \u201cTrumpism\u201d by examining \u201cthe connections between wealth, violence, and politics.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In an email obtained by <em>Campus Reform<\/em>, professor Erika Kitzmiller explained that the course, titled \u201cEducation in the Age of Trump,\u201d introduces \u201cthe past and present conditions that allowed Trump to seize electoral control of a major American political party and acknowledges the intersectional nature of power and politics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The description asserts that the program is \u201cconcerned less with Trump as a man than with \u2018Trumpism,\u2019\u201d which Kitzmiller said is defined by \u201cpolitical polarization, escalating inequality, and persistent racism, misogyny, xenophobia, and homophobia, as a product of history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The email elaborated that students \u201cwill consider how \u2018Trumpism\u2019 affects their roles as educators,\u201d while developing a \u201cdeep appreciation and understanding of the historical and sociological antecedents that have contributed to \u2018Trumpism\u2019 and explore ways to challenge its shortcomings in their classrooms, schools, and communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.amazonaws.com\/campusreform\/10368\/KitzmillerEmail.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"315\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.erikakitzmiller.com\/s\/Education-in-the-Age-of-Trump-Syllabus-Fall-201761417.docx\">syllabus for an earlier version of the same course<\/a> that Kitzmiller taught last year notes that the program is based on \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.publicbooks.org\/trump-syllabus-2-0\/\">Trump Syllabus 2.0<\/a>,\u201d a 2016 work by historians N.D.B. Connolly and Keisha N.
