Senator Bernie Sanders reiterated his support for stepped-up attacks on undocumented workers in an appearance Sunday on the ABC program \u201cThis Week.\u201d Sanders declared he supported \u201cmore security, but not a wall.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"imageRight\" style=\"width:200px; oveflow:hidden;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wsws.org\/asset\/09d6948a-4e92-409d-b505-badf336fa99C\/image.jpg?rendition=image480\"  width=\"200\" style=\"width:200px;\" \/><span>Javier Luengo-Garrido<\/span><\/div>\n<p>The WSWS spoke with Javier Luengo-Garrido, a coordinator at the ACLU\u2019s Immigrant Protection Project in Northampton, Massachusetts, about the recent announcement by the Trump Administration to deport over 200,00 Salvadorans over the next 18 months.<\/p>\n<p>* * *<\/p>\n<p>WSWS: What do you make of Sanders\u2019 statement: \u201cI don\u2019t think there\u2019s anybody who disagrees that we need strong border security. If the president wants to work with us to make sure we have strong border security, let\u2019s do that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Javier Luengo-Garrido: I think he\u2019s talking about defining how much money is allocated for border security. He is not saying let\u2019s build a wall. I do not personally agree with that. It means sending more ICE officers to the border to do more enforcement.<\/p>\n<p>WSWS: How do you perceive the role of the Democratic Party in setting immigration policy?<\/p>\n<p>JLG: The problem is that being the minority party, they haven\u2019t been able to get anything done. They were not willing to do anything about DACA or TPS. Neither party got anything positive done when they could have.<\/p>\n<p>WSWS: What about the role of the Democrats under Obama?
