{"id":342170,"date":"2018-01-03T08:30:55","date_gmt":"2018-01-03T07:30:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/desubsidize-electric-cars-lewrockwell\/"},"modified":"2018-01-03T08:30:55","modified_gmt":"2018-01-03T07:30:55","slug":"desubsidize-electric-cars-lewrockwell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/rinf.com\/alt-news\/newswire\/desubsidize-electric-cars-lewrockwell\/","title":{"rendered":"Desubsidize Electric Cars &#8211; LewRockwell"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t                            \t<!-- S3 Cache --><!-- S3:S3:Non-Original -->\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">The strangest argument has been put forward in defense of Senate Republicans \u2013 who might as well be Senate Democrats \u2013 not rescinding the titanic federal subsidization of electric vehicles \u2013 i.e., the $7,500 an individual can deduct from his taxes (to be made up for by someone\u00a0<em>else\u2019s<\/em>\u00a0taxes) as a reward\/inducement for buying an EV.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">The argument is that the car industry must not be rattled by \u201cregulatory uncertainty.\u201d It is\u00a0<em>used<\/em>\u00a0to the subsidization of electric cars; therefore, ending the subsidies would be as wrong as \u2013 well, let\u2019s see \u2013 dialing back the ethanol mandate or making a bother about stoners buying sushi with their EBT cards.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">They are after all, used to it, too.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">The ethanol make-workers might have to find productive work. Stoner sushi-eaters might have to just work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">It\u2019s horrible. Someone might be Triggered.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">From an\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.autonews.com\/article\/20180101\/OEM11\/180109986\/near-death-of-ev-tax-credit-is-a-lesson-on-government\">editorial<\/a>\u00a0in\u00a0<em>Automotive News<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">\u201c\u2026 given the precarious state of the EV market, it could have been a big setback for the industry had earlier proposals to wipe out the EV tax credit made it into law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Well, first, there is no\u00a0<em>market<\/em>\u00a0for EVs. If there were a market \u2013 that is, demand \u2013 massive subsidies wouldn\u2019t be necessary to jump-start supply.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">EVs are being propped up by subsidies; without the subsidies, there would be very few EVs at all. They cost too much, rendering them uneconomical. They take comparatively forever to recharge, which makes them inconvenient. Hence, most people \u2013 most people- are not interested in them \u2013 especially without generous taxpayer-financed assistance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">How would be it be a \u201csetback\u201d for the industry to stop having to build cars it can\u2019t sell unless they are propped up by subsidies?
