Over half of Americans, both Democrats and Republicans alike, chose \u2018worrisome\u2019 to describe 2017, according to a new survey.<\/p>\n

The poll<\/a>, carried out by Survey Monkey and published Sunday, showed 52 percent of respondents including 64 percent of Democrats and 38 percent of Republicans, found the past year to be \u201cworrisome,\u201d<\/em> while the second most popular word choice was \u201cchaotic.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Overall, though, Republican supporters were slightly more upbeat that their Democrat counterparts, who also labeled the year \u201cHellish\u201d<\/em> and \u201cExhausting.\u201d<\/em> Some 28 percent of Republicans thought the year was \u201cGreat,\u201d<\/em> compared to only 5 percent of Democrats. About 11 percent of GOP backers termed 2017 \u201cEpic\u201d<\/em> compared to 3 percent of Democrats.<\/p>\n

Outside politics, natural disaster struck when storms and hurricanes ravaged the southern United States and Puerto Rico. The year will also be marked with the deadliest mass shooting in American history, when a lone gunman, Stephen Paddock, armed with a small arsenal of assault rifles, shot dead 58 people and wounded more than 500 others at a music concert in Las Vegas before committing suicide. The massacre reignited the fierce debate about gun laws in the United States which are among the most liberal in the developed world.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
