He used an argon beam, a device used by surgeons to prevent bleeding and sometimes to mark where to operate on an organ.<\/p>\n<p>Bramhall pled guilty at the Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday, but pled not guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm. Marks made by an argon beam tend to disappear over time, but in this case, it did not heal.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutor Tony Badenoch said it was a <em>\u201chighly unusual and complex case, both within the expert medical testimony served by both sides and in law. It is factually, so far as we have been able to establish, without legal precedent in criminal law,\u201d<\/em> the Guardian <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk-news\/2017\/dec\/13\/surgeon-admits-marking-his-initials-on-the-livers-of-two-patients\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He added that what Bramhall did was not an isolated incident, and that it was <em>\u201cnot just ethically wrong, but criminally wrong.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIt was an intentional application of unlawful force to a patient whilst anaesthetised,\u201d<\/em> Badenoch said. <em>\u201cHis acts in marking the livers of those patients were deliberate and conscious acts.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/uk\/413037-surgeon-burn-liver-initials\/?utm_source=rss&#038;utm_medium=rss&#038;utm_campaign=RSS\">RT<\/a>.
