Activists were holding \u201cLet Yemen Live\u201d and \u201cStop Bombing Yemen\u201d placards.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The UN protest formed part of coordinated protests at Saudi Arabian consulates in several US cities. The action was timed to coincide with Human Rights Day.<\/p>\n<p>In New York, protesters were told to disperse by police outside the US mission to the UN Monday, before several of them are seen on Facebook live being handcuffed in zip ties and taken into custody.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI\u2019m here because I am very concerned by the influence of the Saudi, Israeli, US military intelligence establishment on the entire US war machine, the so-called war on terror,\u201d<\/em> said Sander Hicks before he was led away in a Facebook Live post.<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fsander.hicks%2Fvideos%2F10156018493293417%2F&amp;show_text=0&amp;width=267\" width=\"267\" height=\"476\" style=\"border:none;overflow:hidden\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"0\" allowtransparency=\"true\" allowfullscreen=\"true\"><\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n<p>The NYPD could not confirm how many people were taken into custody. The activists could be handed desk summons\u2019 or could be arrested.<\/p>\n<p>Hicks said he was joined members from Veterans for Peace, the Catholic Workers, Grannies for Peace, and Refuse Fascism and Code Pink who later marched to the Saudi Arabia Consulate at the UN.<\/p>\n<p>Code Pink, a women led peace and social justice movement, organized protests across the US at Saudi Arabian consulates in Houston, Texas, Washington, DC and Los Angeles, California.<\/p>\n<p>Activists were demonstrating against the US supported Saudi-led war on Yemen, which has induced one of the largest man-made humanitarian crisis.<\/p>\n<p>The Saudi-led war on Yemen began in March 2015, as an effort to restore ousted President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi. More than 11,000 civilians are\u00a0estimated to have been killed in the conflict.<\/p>\n<p>Last Wednesday, President Donald Trump called on Saudi Arabia to immediately lift the blockade of Yemen and allow in food, fuel and medicine, citing humanitarian reasons.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s call follows a UN appeal for a \u201chumanitarian\u201d stop to the airstrikes and fighting in Yemen, to allow for the delivery of aid to civilians trapped in the capital Sana\u2019a.<\/p>\n<p>Saleh was killed Monday after he tried to break off the alliance with the Houthis and negotiate with the Saudi-led alliance. US-backed Saudi coalition forces renewed their attacks on Sana\u2019a in order to back up Saleh\u2019s supporters.
