She has pledged to invest in jobs that will tackle the \u201croot causes of terrorism\u201d and highlighted the ongoing threat of Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS).<\/p>\n<div class=\"article__text text  js-mediator-article\">\n<p>Speaking in Jordan on Thursday, UK Prime Minister Theresa May will outline Britain\u2019s plans for long-term help on economic and social reforms in the country, according to the Guardian. She will address an audience including Jordan\u2019s PM Hani al-Mulki. She has also held talks in Saudi Arabia on Yemen and made a surprise visit to Iraq, where she spoke to PM Haider al-Abadi about the recapture of Mosul from IS fighters and met UK troops. <\/p>\n<p>In Amman, May will also highlight the threat posed by IS fighters who have dispersed through the region. Some have massed near the north of Jordan.<\/p>\n<p>There is also a risk of more fighters returning to Britain. Government figures estimate around 850 UK-linked people of national security concern have traveled to the region to fight, with just under half having returned so far.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"900\" height=\"506\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fR0xKtwqzDM\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>May is attempting to strengthen links with trading partners outside the EU as Brexit approaches. That includes \u00a394.5 million ($127 million) to improve education, create jobs, and <em>\u201cboost Jordan\u2019s long-term economic resilience.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>May met Saudi Arabia\u2019s King Salman and Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman, in Riyadh late on Wednesday after leaving Iraq. There she warned against Iran\u2019s <em>\u201cdestabilizing regional behavior.\u201d<\/em> She said work was needed to bring the international community together to counter it.<\/p>\n<p>She also called on Saudi Arabia to ease the siege on Yemen<em> \u201cas a matter of urgency\u201d<\/em> to avert <em>\u201ca humanitarian catastrophe.\u201d<\/em> A Downing Street spokesman said that while May <em>\u201cnoted that we shared Saudi Arabia\u2019s concerns about Iran\u2019s destabilising regional behavior\u201d<\/em> she made it clear that aid and commercial supplies to Yemen must be restored <em>\u201cif we are to avert a humanitarian catastrophe.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The spokesperson said: <em>\u201cThey agreed that steps needed to be taken as a matter of urgency to address this and that they would take forward more detailed discussions on how this could be achieved.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>May has rejected repeated calls to suspend British arms sales to Saudi Arabia, however, after more than \u00a33.3 billion worth of sales since the bombing of Yemen began in March 2015.
