On Monday, Huckabee Sanders began the last White House press briefing<\/a> before Thanksgiving by sharing what she was thankful for, adding that \u201cit would be nice\u201d<\/em> if the press pool did the same before they asked their questions.<\/p>\n Huckabee Sanders\u00a0expressed thanks for her family, her faith, the military and the first responders who \u201ckeep us safe here at home.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cObviously, you probably know, and it’s not secret, that I’m clearly very thankful for all of you here in the room, and I think that goes without saying,\u201d<\/em> Huckabee Sanders said. \u201cAnd I’m certainly thankful for the incredible privilege of serving this president and the American people.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Huckabee Sanders then laid down the ground rules, telling reporters that it was \u201conly fair\u201d<\/em> that they should also say what they are thankful for before they could ask a question.<\/p>\n \u201cIf you want to ask a question, I think it\u2019s only fair since I\u2019ve shared what I\u2019m thankful for, that you start off for what you\u2019re thankful for,\u201d<\/em> Huckabee Sanders said.<\/p>\n Read more<\/p>\n While the majority of the reporters said they were thankful for their families and friends, others seemed to troll the press secretary.<\/p>\n First, Huckabee Sanders first called on American Urban Radio Networks’ April Ryan, who said she was thankful \u201cto be able to talk to you and question you every single day.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cI feel the gratefulness there,\u201d<\/em> Huckabee Sanders said.<\/p>\n \u201cI hope you felt the passion of my thankfulness,\u201d<\/em> Ryan said.<\/p>\n When Ryan followed up on her question about North Korea, Huckabee Sanders interrupted, \u201cI’m starting to regret calling on you first.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cYou\u2019re thankful for all of us,\u201d<\/em> Ryan said.<\/p>\n \u201cI am, but I don\u2019t want that to go away,\u201d<\/em> Huckabee Sanders said as she called on another reporter.<\/p>\n ABC News\u2019s Cecilia Vega said that she is thankful for the First Amendment, which drew audible cheers from others in the press corps.<\/p>\n \u201cI think we all are,\u201d<\/em> Sanders responded quickly.<\/p>\n \u201cYeah, but we are part of it,\u201d<\/em> Ryan muttered.<\/p>\n When the Associated Press\u2019s Zeke Miller decided to opt out of the exercise, Huckabee Sanders interrupted his question to remind him that he was breaking the \u201crule\u201d<\/em> of the presser.<\/p>\n \u201cZeke, you did break the rule of not offering anything you were thankful for,\u201d<\/em> Huckabee Sanders chided him, to laughter.<\/p>\n At the end of the briefing, Huckabee Sanders thanked the reporters for participating in the \u201cvery fun exercise.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n A number of reporters who were not in the briefing room responded to Huckabee Sanders on social media, tweeting that they were thankful they did not have to participate in the \u201cbizarre\u201d<\/em> exercise.<\/p>\n I’m thankful to have never sat through a White House press briefing where I was expected to say what I was thankful for.<\/p>\n \u2014 Angela GreilingKeane (@agreilingkeane) November 20, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n <\/center><\/div>\n I am thankful for not having to go to the briefing room every day<\/p>\n \u2014 Asawin Suebsaeng (@swin24) November 20, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n <\/center><\/div>\n I am thankful for the 1st Amendment.<\/p>\n (which I think protects me from having to say what I am thankful for.)<\/p>\n \u2014 John Berman (@JohnBerman) November 20, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n <\/center><\/div>\n When the briefing is done all WH reporters must also put their toys away and sit criss-cross applesauce.<\/p>\n \u2014 Ben White (@morningmoneyben) November 20, 2017<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n <\/center><\/div>\n Other reporters did seem to enjoy the exercise, with the BBC\u2019s Jon Sopel saying it should be a daily requirement at the White House press briefing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
