The incident follows a year plagued with systemic problems in the naval service. <\/p>\n<div class=\"article__text text  js-mediator-article\">\n<p>An emergency helicopter transported the unidentified sailor Friday evening, from the San Diego-based aircraft carrier to Scripps Memorial Hospital in San Diego, California, the Los Angeles Times reported.<\/p>\n<div class=\"arcticle__read-more read-more\">\n<p>Read more<\/p>\n<p>    <a class=\"read-more__link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/408960-navy-admirals-fat-leonard-scandal\/\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n                    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"read-more__cover\" src=\"https:\/\/cdni.rt.com\/files\/2017.11\/thumbnail\/5a00cc10fc7e93480a8b4567.jpg\" alt=\"\u00a9 Mike Blake\"\/><br \/>\n    <\/a>\n<\/div>\n<p>US Navy spokesman Steve Fiebing did not immediately have additional details on the incident, but stated it is under investigation, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/aponline\/2017\/11\/05\/us\/ap-us-navy-sailor-injured.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">New York Times<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>The event caused the <em>Carl Vinson<\/em> to suspend all flight operations on Friday, and also delayed many operations on the ship that were scheduled for Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Carl Vinson<\/em> was taking part in sustainment training exercises, called SUSTEX, off the coast of Southern California at the time of the incident, <a href=\"https:\/\/sputniknews.com\/military\/201711071058866892-us-sailor-carl-vinson-injury\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sputnik<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>SUSTEX is training which allows carrier strike groups to evaluate their readiness for combat in expectation of a combat assignment.<\/p>\n<p>Before this incident, the US Navy started investigating systemic problems in the service, which are believed to be the contributing factors in two high-profile fatal collisions that took place earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators looking into the previous problems have found that US sailors have been overworked, taking part in shifts that go on for some 15 hours per day. The sailors\u2019 lack of rest has led to negligence in the area of safety regulations, leading to excessive reliance on electronic systems, Sputnik reported.<\/p>\n<p>The Navy addressed the systemic issues by changing its work timetable in favor of much shorter shifts. However, at the same time, the changes have increased the workload for sailors. Crew members are now required to learn exercises and training that focus on labor-intensive basics, such as the use of old-school compasses and pencil navigation, according to Sputnik.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/406388-navy-mccain-collision-captain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">READ MORE:\u00a0Navy punishes McCain captain over collision that killed 10 sailors<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In August, the USS <em>John S. McCain<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/400332-destroyer-collides-vessel-singapore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">collided<\/a> with a merchant vessel near Singapore, killing 10 sailors and injuring five.<\/p>\n<p>Previous to the <em>McCain<\/em> incident, the USS <em>Fitzgerald<\/em> collided with a cargo ship near Yokosuka in June.
