A jury deliberated for five minutes before finding the defendant guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to the animal.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article__text text  js-mediator-article\">\n<p>Last December, 27-year-old Dominic O&#8217;Connor &#8211; formerly William Mocsari, of Kircubbin, County Down &#8211; used a leash to strangle his four-year-old collie, Jess, before cooking it with onions and an Oxo cube, Downpatrick Crown Court was told.<\/p>\n<div class=\"arcticle__read-more read-more\">\n<p>Read more<\/p>\n<p>    <a class=\"read-more__link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.rt.com\/usa\/396445-cat-killer-sentenced-prison\/\" target=\"_blank\"><br \/>\n                    <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"read-more__cover\" src=\"https:\/\/cdni.rt.com\/files\/2017.07\/thumbnail\/596a8a24dda4c8a7678b4567.jpg\" alt=\"\u00a9 H. Schmidt-Roeger \/ Global Look Press\"\/><br \/>\n    <\/a>\n<\/div>\n<p>Over the course of a two-day trial, recordings of O\u2019Connor\u2019s police interview were heard, in which the defendant explained that he <em>\u201ccooked it and fed it to the other dog with a few onions and an Oxo cube and salt and pepper.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Connor then cut up the leftover carcass before burning the remains and discarding them in Portavogie harbor. The incident came to light when O\u2019Connor told hospital staff what had happened.<\/p>\n<p>His statement was reported to police, who found burnt dog hair in a grate when they searched his home.
