Last year was her best in recent decades, with her horses earning \u00a3557,650.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article__text text  js-mediator-article\">\n<p>Since 1988, Her Majesty has recorded an impressive 451 race wins from 2,215 runs, according to research by the website myracing.com. This follows last year\u2019s best-ever result.<\/p>\n<p>It is understood that the majority of the winnings go to the horses\u2019 trainers. Buckingham Palace says the matter is <em>\u201cprivate\u201d<\/em> and declined to provide a breakdown of the distribution, according to the Times.<\/p>\n<p>The Queen has 24 horses that have run this year, and possibly others that have not run. It typically costs between \u00a325,000 and \u00a335,000 a year to keep a horse in training.<\/p>\n<p>The Queen was given her first pony at the age of four and inherited a string of thoroughbreds from her father, George VI.<\/p>\n<p>She won her first race in 1949 as Princess Elizabeth, aged 23, when a steeplechaser called Monaveen won at Fontwell Park.
